9/11 was a devastating event is american history. My sources did very well when it came to information i needed. They both showed pictures but The CNN News showed videos. I feel they are both reliable sources because most of the time they both had the same information. My sources help people learn what's going on in the world and where they live.…
My internet searches were performed using the Bing search engine. I decided to use the term calorie. My search results returned with many amounts of sources; eighty-three million seven hundred thousand results to be exact. The first source I selected was the Calorie Control Council located on the web at http://caloriecontrol.org/.…
As part of my assignment I have compared the topic of influenza vaccination with two different websites. The first website is U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (https://www.va.gov/VETDATA/docs/SurveysAndStudies/VETPOP.pdf) and the second Centers for Disease control and prevention (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm ) to identify how each website shows their information, what audience they attract and to see the difference in style and context. The publichealth.va.gov present information targeted towards VA patients. While the CDC is aimed toward healthcare professionals.…
This includes shredding all paperwork that contains unnecessary confidential health information, checking the fax number before sending confidential information by fax, using closed door and privacy curtains when discussing health information with a client, and keeping medical records attended to at all times. Confidential health information that you see or hear yourself must be kept to yourself and look only at that medical information you need to do your particular job. If employees come to the healthcare facility for care, their information needs to be as protected as anyone else’s medical records. Security safeguards need to be in place at all times. Some ways to do this include the following: *…
If you run a business in a competitive industry, you know how important it is to appear credible in the eyes of consumers. If given a choice between two similar companies, people will do business with the one that comes across as being more professional. Except for testimonials, a Wikipedia page about your business is the best way to gain credibility and trust. Consumers trust Wikipedia's neutral viewpoint, with legitimate, third-party references to back up each fact about your organization. They want to know who founded your company, when you opened the doors for business and where you're headquartered; this shows that you have nothing to hide.…
Credibility: When employing Credibility, the writer attempts to convince the reader(s) that he is an informed source of information, and that his are derived from firsthand knowledge regarding the subject in question. I have to imagine that credibility is something that anyone except comedians strives to achieve. In the business world, I don't think I've ever written anything in which I didn't strive to convince the reader(s) that I was a credible source of information. The few times in which I have found myself attempting to convince other people to invest money with me, I felt compelled to be extremely credible, as I'm sure you can imagine. Expectation Regarding Expectation, the writer is attempting to inform his reader(s) of what they can expect from him, or his organization.…
Not all websites are created equal. There are many reasons for this inconsistency in website quality, including: age of information, how often the website is updated, and the credibility of the author. For this reason finding an article using a simple google search is difficult, because you will never know if the article you are looking at is spreading misinformation, biased views, or even plagiarism. On a controversial issue such as the NSA, (National Security Agency) a government agency created to conduct surveillance on people, the issue of misinformation and bias becomes relevant in an abundance of sources checked.…
Even when I had been going through middle school and high school, my teachers had always been very clear about not using Wikipedia as a source. They would only go as far as to suggest that it could be used as a start for research, but never as an actual source for a project. She uses examples of student’s interviews, the fact that it is constantly updated, and how it has a better example of the American Revolution than an advanced class. She discusses how students had been told to not use Wikipedia as a “main source”, but they were not told why they were not allowed to use Wikipedia or why other sources were more trustworthy. People use Wikipedia to spread their knowledge and, it is usually much easier for people to understand a difficult topic if it is explained by another…
PLANNING Research process 1 – the youth and adult political leanings survey For the first part of my research project I have created a youth and adult political leanings survey to show the social and political attitudes of young people towards particular issues. Questions include economic issues such as taxation, foreign policy matters such as when Australia should go to war and tackles the hot social issues of our day such as refugees and abortion. My target audience for my youth political leanings survey will be the Concordia populace. That way I can be sure that the majority of respondents would fit into the ‘youth’ category and hence reflect the political views of young people. My ‘adult’ survey will be sent out through my parent’s Facebook…
Polk, Johnston, and Evers conclude that instead of not using Wikipedia, students “need to be taught the skills to utilize it in an effective way” (Polk, Johnston, Evers, 2015, p.101). Though there is a large amount of uncertainty with teachers and librarians, they claim the study indicates that Wikipedia can be useful for education in the…
First I would click on the library link, then click on EBSCO, then search what it is I'm looking for, then narrow it down by the subject, then scroll through the titles, read through abstract, then use pdf full text to read the full article, then copy and paste the reference to my research. The difference between scholarly and popular sources is that scholarly sources is credible information, issued by a credible source who has researched the information before publicizing the information. Popular sources information isn't so credible. The goal of popular sources is to create an illusion of something that they haven't researched.…
Not editing on Wikipedia in months has been an astonishment. I have been turning my head to the Wikia Fandom where countless Wikias are created (James Bond, Wookiepedia, Literature Wikia, etc.). They are so much better off than Wikipedia and have more lenient policies than the strict Wikipedia ones which make it difficult for the common man to create a single article. In contrast to Wikipedia, it's so much easier for anyone to create an article as long as they stick to what a particular Wikia is about. This particular policy is beneficial to fans since they don't have to have any of the articles removed or their edits reverted.…
“The Internet has become a primary form of external or "trans active" memory where information is stored collectively outside the brain.” (CITE). Instead of having to memorize ideas and facts, we can “Google” them, giving us the advantage of saving time which would have been taken up by thinking. The internet also provides us with a source of validation and evidence to justify what we know as true. Cons…
opular sources vs. scholarly sources In preparation for this assignment, I was able to use Pinterest as a way of research and learned that depending on research topic, that Pinterest and popular sources may be an acceptable way to support an argument. These sources are what I used in my comparison to the popular sources that can be found on Pinterest. My Exploratory draft three explores how popular sources can be useful in supporting an argument: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_rmoHln OZ5V17pCnADboyjJFrMrdW0pB2ac4eGOxm00/edit?usp =sharing.…
Broader Sources of Knowledge In ancient times, people passed on survival experience to the next generation through oral method. Later, various ways such as making ropes, drawing pictures on walls, and characters emerged to record daily events. People record daily life in order to educate next generation so that the next generation of people can live a better life. With the advent of photographic film, the recording process becomes more and more lifelike and vivid.…
