In my role as a Guardian ad litem I acted as a liaison between children, families and the court. In order to, protect the interests of minor children in the Department of Social Services (DSS) custody. This, was not an easy task because this required the removal of children (ages 0-17) from the home who have been abused or neglected. This, sometimes meant a child would be separated from his or her siblings and placed into foster care until a permanent placement was obtained rather it be a parent completing a case plan or a child gaining out of the system. As a Guardian ad litem I was required to treat everyone with dignity and respect and to established a positive rapport, between clients, family members and the community.…

In this essay, I will argue that it is permissible to kill a villainous aggressor, an innocent aggressor, and an innocent threat, but not an innocent bystander. According to Judith Jarvis Thompson, it is morally permissible for person A to kill person B in self-defense if and only if (1) B will kill A unless A kills B, and (2) if B kills A, the B will violate A ’s right that B not kill A (Handout #16). The Innocent Killer Ender Wiggin, a genocidal killer we somehow feel sympathy for, but is our sympathy justified? In an essay by John Kessel, titled “Creating the Innocent Killer”, Kessel discussed this matter and concludes that we should not feel sympathy for him as he is a murderer. He killed two people as well as the entire population of a foreign species, yet still labeled innocent. I agree with Kessel’s conclusion, because although he didn’t know he was committing genocide at the time he planned on doing so in the future, he was always unnecessarily violent but wasn’t punished for it, and his intentions don’t change his actions. To summarize Kessel…

Victimology Life Style Exposure The life style that the three victims, Byers, Branch and Moore had would have put them in minimal amounts of situations where they would be exposed to victimisation. As eight year old children they would have had School Monday to Friday, where they would have been overseen by a number of adults and be in the company of numerous children. This means that most days of the week and most hours of the day the victims would have had low risk of exposure to criminal behaviour. There is also little evidence to suggest domestic violence in the homes of the victims, as however, there is only Byer’s fathers transcript in the Case Materials (1993)…

From a person-blame approach, the cause of mass incarceration would be that it is the individual’s fault as to why they are in prison. A solution to a person-blame approach would be for the individual who has been imprisoned to stop doing what it is that they have done to wind up incarcerated. Demetria would be an excellent example of a person-blame approach. Those who believe that person-blame approach would say that it was Demetria’s actions that landed Demetria in juvenile detention. Though this is true, the root of the problem can be connected to this individual’s family.…
