Creativity, Flexibility, Budgeting, And Negotiation

Improved Essays
My top 5 skill include: creativity, dependability, flexibility, budgeting, and negotiating. I chose creativity because apart from being one of my skills, it is very important to me. In an unorthodox way my creativity helps me create goals and plans for myself when past ones have proven unsuccessful. I think creativity reminds me why I am alive, it helps to inspire me and excite me for the future. I chose dependability because this is something that I am very good at. I am proud to say that whatever I am pursuing, is done well. This has helped me to gain confidence in myself. No matter what the other circumstances, I remain sure that the task at hand is done thoroughly and efficiently. I think this also helps to make me more successful in the …show more content…
I have found that when you remain flexible and low-maintenance you become much more pleasant to associate with. You become easier to approach especially with life’s dilemmas. I think that is a great thing to claim, that even in the face of adversity you achieve your goals. I chose budgeting because this is a skill that will always be significant. Budgeting has proven me successful because it shows that I am responsible. This skill is helpful in many different environments including: work, school, home etc. Being good at budgeting proves that I have good judgement and good control. I know when things are necessary and when they are just a temporary desire. I chose negotiating because this skill helps me greatly in the social environment. Negotiating is a good skill because it shows that you are selfless and compliant. It shows that you will continue to use good judgement even if your ego has to be temporarily sacrificed. Being able to negotiate shows that you are willing to compromise and make a smart decision for the good of the company. It even shows that you value friendships more than you value being …show more content…
I chose delegating because this might be the biggest thing that I need to work on. Sometimes when I am really passionate or really good at something it becomes difficult for me to let others help me. As previously stated, I expect near perfection and have a hard time trusting others to give me that result. I can develop this by learning to trust people and by accepting results that are less than perfect. Perfection isn’t realistic. I chose dominant because when I am not in a position of power I have difficulty standing up for myself. I can develop this skill by recognizing when I have reached my limits and vocalizing it. Again, I cannot always expect perfection. I chose energetic because I have difficulty being optimistic and I have difficulty letting myself enjoy things. I can achieve this by learning to only vocalize my positive thoughts and by trying to enjoy the experience. I chose risk-taking because I am definitely a planner. I definitely think about every possible negative outcome before making a decision. I can do this by again trying to be more optimistic. Thinking about the positive outcomes instead of the bad will help make decision making easier for me. I chose questioning because sometimes I don’t like to admit when I need help. I tend to push myself to the breaking point because again, I expect perfection. I can improve on this by telling myself and

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

The skill I found to be the most valuable and that I got to learn more while I was here was letter writing and making proper announcements. I had to write numerous letters to insurance companies for billing and letters to patients for balances or refunds. This was a skill I was looking forward to making better and I felt like I had an opportunity to do it at this office. I also feel that I found I am better at working in a quiet space than in a busy area. I had two work spaces at this office and one was quaint and quiet while the other was busy and had lots of people. I feel like I am able to accomplish much more when I am able to focus and give my attention to the particular material or billing issues that are top priority. I also developed a habit of only handling paper once. It is something my husband talked about once and I decided to try it. If I touch the paper I don’t look at it and set it down for later. I look at it, find out what I need to do with it and take care of the issue at hand right then and there. Then paperwork doesn’t get piled up for me to take care of later. I would also do this when I took care of the mail each…

I believe that strong communication skills can get you anything and anywhere. Communication is how we learn new things about one another. Without communication between people, nothing would get accomplished, and we would all be lost. Another one of my strengths was empathy. Although, I think being empathetic is more of a weakness than a strength, it still describes me well. At first I thought of myself as the least empathetic person on this Earth, but through the last few weeks, I have noticed that I put people before me. I can see this as a strength, but mostly as a weakness. I feel that putting people before yourself could lead to self-neglect. If you focus on others and their work rather than focusing on yourself, they are excelling and you are not. My last strength was adaptation. This is something I can definitely see myself as. Through my four years of high school, I attended three different schools. I went from a small private school to where I knew everyone and their grandparents, to a large public school, both in Birmingham, Alabama. From there, I traveled to Cleveland, Tennessee where I graduated from Polk County High School. Through all of my transitions to new high…

Upon completing the StrengthsFinder survey, it is determined my 5 greatest strengths are the learner, achiever, competition, strategic, and relator, all of which I expected (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006). While reading the text I examined the various themes of different strengths, relating closely to the 5 assigned by the survey, I am impressed by how well the explanations were written in the book, Strengths Quest Second Edition. The text in correlation with the materials provided from the StrengthsFinder survey brought forth meaning and depth into finding out exactly the type of person I am.…

My lowest personal skill would have to be decision making because of how I act when I am put to a decision making position. When I am asked to make a decision I tend to take a long time an example of this is creating a wish list I look into all possible items and combinations. Which usually takes a few days while others I know take a few minutes or seconds. I also go with the decisions my peers or friends make. I intend to enhance this skill next semester by being more of a leader so I am forced in a position to make a decision. I also plan to be more involved in other learning activities. I am also going to work with the Conover tests in order to higher this skill.…

Connectedness was in my top five. This trait is shown through my ability to understand how systems are connected. I am able to see the big picture and find connections to individuals. I also tested high in Relator, which is expressed by how many past coworkers are now close friends. I also relate well to leader who poses Empathy and would like to display more empathy especially for my supervisors. I tend to not give very much grace and forget that my project is not the only thing happening for the manager. If I were able to relate better I would gather more trust and create a better work environment. I am naturally an Includer in my personal life, noticing when someone is left out and bringing them in, and I would like to bring this into my professional life.
