Creativity, an essential skill that can simultaneously help advance the world and communicate different perceptions of an idea, has gradually declined since 1990. Original ideas are vital when it comes to problem solving, technological advancements, communication, and much more. If the public worldwide stops creating new ideas, the world will experience a plateau rather than growth in development. In order to boost creativity in the population, it is best to start at the foundation of all skills, school. Supported by a scientific study and personal experience, creative thinking should be taught in school, because without explicit practice of thinking creatively, the mind begins to lose that skill.…

I also learned there are many factors that contribute to creativity such as words and sentences, images, metaphors, etc. I also learned there is a distinction between creativity and imagination as imagination is concerned with something that is not present while creativity is doing something significant with your imagination. This course taught me so much about creativity, I cannot express it all in 300…

Even within Math and Science, creativity is required in order to grow and move forward. New ideas have to be created for the world to evolve, but with the stifling of creativity, and the creation of a school system where making mistakes can cost students grades, college admissions, and ultimately their future, putting new ideas out into the open can be intimidating. This renders the education system counterproductive and creates leaders and innovators who succeed despite the structure of their education system instead of because of it. Creativity is a defining trait of civilization and should not be…

Educating the Whole Child: Where Have the Arts Gone Sir Ken Robinson, Professor Emeritus, author, educator, and public speaker advising on the importance of the Arts in schools to foster creativity in children, was videotaped at a TED conference where he asked the question, “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” The overall message is that the creative spark is being educated out of our children in public schools. Robinson states, “Creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status. (Robinson 2:56) Young children are not afraid try new things, often have ideas which we adults squash, and our educational system is geared away from kindling that spark of the creative gene.…

Creativity is a word that is heard throughout our time in school, however as you get older the word becomes less important because it has nothing to do with your “essential” subjects, or so some think. In the video we were asked to watch I could not help but agree on everything Sir Ken Robinson had to say. His ideas and way of thinking are remarkable and I found myself hanging on to every word and going back to listen to certain parts of the video again. During elementary school I remember attending a music and art class every other day of the week and it was a chance for all of the students to be creative.…
