The preferences are that of the Clarifier, characterized by being methodical and detail oriented; the Ideator/transformer is imaginative and big picture oriented; the developer is a perfectionist, pragmatic, and requires time to consider and develop options; and the implementer is action oriented and a bit impatient. The latter most closely resembles my preference, though I do at times also identify with one or more descriptors from the other preferences. Understanding my FourSight preferences as well as those of my colleagues and subordinates is useful because it enables me to see some of my blind spots during interactions with others while better understanding their preferences as well. The Kirton Adaption-Innovation Inventory is another method for gaining a better understanding of a person’s creative style. My score puts me squarely as a “bridger” between adaptor and innovator, which is helpful to know because I can now seek adaptors and innovators to serve on teams to ensure intellectual diversity. As a bridger, I can relate to either, or even play either role in situations where one or the other is not available on the team. Gone thinking! To promote freer, more creative thinking, I will need to include time to observe and appreciate creativity. In class and in my journal I described television shows that highlighted some very talented and creative people. While television can be a good source of creative inspiration, once each month I will schedule an opportunity to study creativity related to art, science, business, commerce, family or any other source I discover. While family may seem an unusual source for creative inspiration, this course prompted me to notice my son’s creativity. I the past few months, he has spectacularly modified an old jeep, built a fashionable headboard from discarded pallets, and created a wall hanging comprised of two decorated horseshoes centered on a background of rustic boards. All of his creations cost very little and are remarkably aesthetic. Each day, I will include at least one observation of creativity in my journal to reinforce creativity and idea
