Creative Writing: Why Did I Survive, Allister

Improved Essays
Why did I survive, Allister? How come I didn’t die when I took those three rounds? One in the shoulder, one in the arm, one in the thigh and then the impossible. In another engagement I took an armor-piercing round right through my armor vest, why did I live to suffer?”
Tank glanced at him through moistened eyes, looking for a reaction. He hoped that his revelation wasn’t overkilling, in the same way as he did with Ellie.
“You’re alive through the grace and sovereignty of God. Tank, the Lord has a plan for your life. There are other special works He will entrust to your hands. It might be to reach others suffering from P.T.S.D. There is nothing but long lineups at the VA. Maybe, the Lord has help for them through you. He has already used you

I can’t tell you that I understand it all. I was never in a war or even an armed conflict for that matter.
The load you are carrying is tremendous. I’m sure other people told you that there was nothing else you could do. Nor, was there something you failed to do that would have changed any of the outcomes. I want you to know that it would have been the same no matter what you did or didn’t do. Listen to, these two Scriptures.”
“Now, see that I, and only I, am God! There is no other God! I put people to death, and I let people live. I can hurt people, and I can make them well. No one can save another person from my power!” (Deuteronomy 32:39 ERV)
“The LORD causes people to die, and he causes them to live. He sends people down to the grave, and he can raise them up to live again.” (1st. Samuel 2:6 ERV)
“So, Tank, the terrorist’s worked their evil, but only God has the power of life and death. The Lord ultimately brought blessings out of it all. You are that blessing. Those who are alive today due to your actions under fire, they are that benefit. They live on, bringing, peace to those around them. What, other miracles will come out of this, we may not know this side of

Another Sergeant may have found other advantages that I missed. They might have covered all the bases.”
“Bro, you’re not somebody else. Somebody else wasn’t there, you were. You did your best, didn’t you?”
“Certainly I did, but…” Allister cut him off.
“Wait a minute,” interjected a concerned Allister who was in over his head. “Your soldier’s the ones that died. Did they love and trust you?”
“Obviously, they showed trust, but that’s the point. I failed them. I wish I had come up with another way to handle it.”
“Tank, I wonder, would they agree with you? Somehow, I don’t think so. You indicated that you did your best. God doesn’t expect any more from us than that.”
“Then why, after I prayed and confessed it as a sin do I still suffer from the nightmares?”
He waited patiently through Allister’s long pause. When he did reply, his answer was of little comfort.
“Tank, I’m not a Pastor. Why don’t we talk with Pastor Jim? I’m sure he will be able to answer your question.”
Tank felt that Allister was avoiding the question so he gave him an out.
“I need to take the time to pray about it. We’ll connect later,” he declared

For example, a firefighter directly saves a person or child stuck in a fire, which is the same way we have a problem with why God doesn’t intervene in these disasters like the fireman. This form of saving is a more direct saving from a tragedy than the plumber I referred to earlier. As the firefighter is directly saving the child from a fire like an act of God, God fixing a leaky sink would not be seen as a problem of evil, more of an inconvenience. The same example could be used for a medical professional, a neurosurgeon doing a heart transplant would be seen as acting as God much more than the plumber. Both the firefighter and the medical field have people depend on them from protecting the people from “evil.”…

I was beginning to get nervous. Bobby Joe was on his knees praying, George had just called and said he was on his way over, and it finally had hit me that I was getting into something much larger than I’d originally thought. Let me be blunt, I’m not a great Christian. I try to live a good life, I don’t drink much and never get drunk, and I’ll profess that I believe the Lord is my savior and died for my sins. Besides that, my logic takes over and I question too many things.…

Sunlight bathes the table filled with striking, fine china and candles melting at a snail’s pace. We both find our seats and wait for King and Queen Macbeth. I glance around the room and observe the décor, when suddenly Lennox addresses me. “Ross I have something of utmost importance to discuss with you,” he whispered, “but we must make it quick and keep quiet.…

The passages concerning new life of one’s preface were Romans 6:19-23 and Colossians 3:1-14, because the passages describes the then and now in one’s life. Paul writes addressing the Romans Christians saying, “I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification. For when you were slaves, you were free in regard to righteousness. Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed?…
