His eyes adjust slightly to the dim lights as he reaches forward to grab the rail as his thoughts slow down a moment. His heart adjusting from the pounding adrenaline rush caused by the explosion to a slow and steady thump. The hospital robe that hangs from his body blows gently back and forth as he feels air circulating up the stairwell. His free hand reaches up to his chest clenches onto the robe, making sure it was real. Confused by what is happening to him, he begins to walk back down the stairs. Halfway down the first section of stairs, leading down to the third floor, he felt a light breeze once again, followed by a voice that slightly echoes with reverberation. The two walk down the busy street looking at all the shops as they move closer to the waterfront. From behind several people scream and shout making Dan and Lisa turn to see the commotion coming from behind them. Just as they turn to see a white car swerving around the street. It quickly cuts in and heads straight for them. With no time for reaction, the car collides with them, sending Dan flying off to the right, and hitting Lisa head-on, crushing her between the building and the car. The car rolls back slightly and Dan watches his love fall to the ground battered and limp. He stands, and rushes back to the car, to see a man in the driver's seat who appears to be having a seizure. Lisa lies on her side on the sidewalk. Her body illuminated by the headlights of the car that just struck her down. He drops to his knees beside her as she struggles to breathe. Blood begins to pool inside her mouth when her eyes roll up to look at Dan. He can see the fear and pain she is in as her life begins to fade. The door of the building opens and a woman peeks her head out, her jaw dropping open as she sees the horrific accident on the sidewalk just outside her …show more content…
Unable to find it, he looks up at the woman and tells her to call 911. Over and over again, he asks for her help. The woman stands in the entryway of her shop, watching and shaking her head with no response. His mind focuses for a brief moment before realizing the woman does not speak English. Without a choice, he leaves Lisa's side to call for help. As soon as he walks through the door of the building, everything but the aching memory of this accident leaves him, and Dan finds himself once again, walking through the door and entering the stairwell. The steel door once again closing behind him, leaving him in silence. A moment passes before he grabs the railing in front of him, his fingers gripping the cold steel in anger, and releasing a scream of frustration that pounds the echoes repeatedly off the
