The sounds of birds could be heard out here in the African savannah. Dembe had always woken up to this sound and not until recently he had also been woken up by his son, Caden. Caden, like most children, was very energetic and had made a habit of jumping on his father’s bed in order to wake him. So the day began, birds were chirping when all of a sudden everything ceased and here came Caden. He slid along the new, shiny timber floor and braced himself for impact as he rammed into the bedroom door to brake. His father hadn’t woken up and Caden quietly creeped up to his father’s side as if dismissing the loud thud he had made earlier. There he climbed up and as he jumped, Dembe woke and caught him in mid-air and pulled him in for a morning hug. …show more content…
His father, Dembe, had wanted to keep this a secret until he was old enough to ask or understand. Nevertheless, the truth had came out, relatives started calling him death, murderer, a killer. At the time Caden was about 7 and he never really understood these words and when he had asked his father, he had always stopped him mid sentence and said, “Are all things that you should not be concerned with at this age,” as if to finish off what Caden had started saying. Today was unlike any day special for Caden, his father had always tried to make up for his mother’s absence but today it was exceptionally special, it was time for …show more content…
The car’s engine had diminished from a loud roar to a quit purr. Dembe had packed an esky full of sandwiches and with this, drew in the unwanted company of leopards. The leopards were bemused by, what was, a loud jeep. The leopards climbed all over the jeep: into the open trunk, sniffing the hot tires and scratching the car’s glossy surface with their sharp claws. Dembe didn’t think he had so many sandwiches to spare he opened the window and through half the container out for leopards. “Why Dad? Why would you throw away perfectly scrumptious sandwiches?” asked Caden “Why? I hear you ask. It is our nice to share my son and we mustn’t share just with our own kind by with others too. This is the lesson I want you to learn. No matter how different they are you should always be polite, kind and generous.” “Yes Dad!” Caden replied

Today had been long. It was one of those days that Cassie wanted to end with a bear hug from her dad. Her dad was always the person to brighten her day. When she was little, he would feed her popsicles for tender bitten tongues and coax straws filled with bubbles of ginger ale past pale nauseous little lips. His arms were the only place she was willing to sleep; even at thirteen Cassie wished that she still could.…

Like the quiet before the storm, there was another nigh-complete silence, a well-needed respite after the deafening gunfire they had been subjected to; then, the thunderous sound started up again, the crack of Daniel Stoll shooting indiscriminately like a madman. The gang members, surging through this unreliable curtain of bullets, did not pursue their entourage, instead slamming the door shut with a tremendous clamor. It was a bizarre, ridiculous decision. Had they wanted to escape the wrath of Mr. Stoll and his equalizer, it was entirely possible to simply not walk towards the doorway! Instead they pressed forward into a place with no cover to merely shut a door.…

She was nervous, not only did the vampires pose a threat to the twins but these oversized hairballs did as well. How could she be so stupid as to allow this?! Her silly brother had the best of intentions and apparently, he was very persuasive when he convinced her to free the animals or else she wouldn't be standing here now. Wind bustled through the branches of the trees, making the leaves howl in their symphony. Walking along the gravel path in the woods makes you realize how intricate the clash between weather and nature can be. Two natural forces both in harmony and constantly fighting.
