While driving to the office, discussing the case, although disappointed they hadn’t solved the Lincoln murder case, Detective Wallace said, “We need to talk to Mrs. Wilson, there’s something about her story bothers me, and I can’t put my finger on it.”
“Let’s talk to her, before we go to lunch. How does that sound?” Detective Johnson asked.
“Sounds good,” Detective Wallace said, making a left turn and went to Mrs. Wilson’s house.

The detectives sat on Mrs. Wilson’s sofa and were certain they had met the neighborhood gossiper as they listened while she insisted on telling them all about Katherine’s problems with her daughter.
After listening to as much gossip as they could handle, Detective Wallace interrupted her and said, “Now, tell

We’ll check on that one¸” Detective Wallace said. Surprised to hear her say that since he also suspected she was guilty.
Questioning the value of Mrs. Wilson’s information, Detective Johnson asked, “Is there anything else you want to tell us?”
“Nothing else, right now, but I’m always glad to help.”
“Thank you. If we have any questions, we’ll contact you,” Detective Wallace said and went to the car. +++
When the detectives entered the Red Onion Saloon, the bartender asked, “Hey, fellows, how’s it going, been a long, busy day? You look beat.”
“You might say we’re always busy. Send us over the usual,” Detective Wallace said, noticing two officers sitting in a booth and stopped to chat.
“How’s the murder investigation going?” One of them asked. Detective Johnson answered, “We’ve received many leads and expect to wrap it up soon. How did your kids enjoy the ball game?”
“It was an amazing game and they loved it,” the officer said.
“We’ll see you. Here comes Linda with our drinks,” Detective Johnson said, sitting in a

I was on my way to the store and planned to talk to her later, but I didn’t get a chance.”
The detective listened as she talked excessively, “Normally, I’m not going to tell you about doing your job, but considering my late husband was a retired detective and a damned first-rate one. I’m the only one to help you boys solve the case,” Gloria boasted, shifting from one foot to the other.
“How will you do that? I remember, Detective Evans a respectable man and an outstanding detective,” Detective Wallace said, wanting to laugh, but decided to wait and see what she would say. Pointing her finger, she said, “It’s simple, check on Katherine's daughter. In the event of her mother’s death, she has the most to gain. Take my word for it and you’ll find she is not the loving person you think. I don’t care if she wears the most expensive designer clothes in town.”
“Explain that,” the detective said. “Call it feminine intuition or whatever you wish,” she said, folding her

FBI Agent Winston Powell looked innocuous enough like a tourist in a white Ralph-Lauren shirt, a pair of white Nike Air Max sneakers, and Dockers khaki slacks. The disguise was effective because the locals thought Agent Powell was just one of many other well-to-do Americans in Mazatlán on vacation. And they were partly right—the vacation part: He was a tourist in Mexico having fun with his family.…
