The Invasion of the Ugly Ogres
We felt our way along like three blind mice through the morning mist until at last we emerged from the fog and found ourselves encircled by harsh wind, gritty dust, and weeds. Which felt like tiny needles against my skin and caused my lips to crack as we wandered in silence. Suddenly the wind petered out and the weeds erupted in high-pitched shrieks. I stopped, drew my sword and the shrieks ceased. "Who's there? Emma shouted as she glanced around in so many directions that she appeared to have a twitch. "Come on let's get out of here!" " Come on there's a castle next to those palm trees. We can hide there," Emma yelled as she scrambled passed a pond, over a tiny wooden draw bridge, and through the massive steel doors. I followed her then stopped in the entryway. "I think we lost them. We can wait here for Emma," Cotton said, leaning against a wall gasping. "We have to go inside and hid." A deep voice from behind us roared, "Lost who?"
We both jumped and turned around. There in the entry niche standing beside an armored statue was a two foot tall green gremlin with bat-like wings, long floppy ears, a squashed face, sharp teeth, and yellow eyes. "None of your business," Cotton snapped. "Beat it." The gremlin made a face then stuck his tongue out at Cotton and ran down the steps and across the sand. "Now to get back to what I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted the whole idea of going inside is insanity. We have no idea who lives inside of that castle! For all we know whatever it is could be far worse than those foul monster that we just ran away from," Cotton said. There was a gentle flutter of wings above our heads.
