Creative Writing: The Forest Path

A faint breeze whistled through the leaves on the forest path. A chill was in the autumn air. Two figures stood near the old decaying tree, both seemed a little on edge.
“Why did you bring me here John?” the girl asks. She was more nervous than John was.
John just chuckled a little and ignored the question. “Stacy,” he said finally, “do you remember where we first met?” He turned around and looked her in the eyes.
“It was around here, but it’s really late.” Stacy stated, “Why don’t we just head home and you can tell me there.”
Stacy turned and began to wander back through the darkening woods. The only light was from the full moon shining above the trees. She shivered and turned back towards John.
“Are you just going to stand there? Come on, it’s getting dark and this place is really creepy.” She grumbled as John stood on the hill, staring into the distance. “Hey! Are you even listening to me?”
John stood still as a statue and kept watching the incandescent, sinister crimson moon. It was a blood moon. He let out a small sigh and turned back to where Stacy was, but she had already begun to rush down the path. John began running down the hill when he heard a rustling in the bushes next to him.
Stacy kept running through the forest searching for the road, when she heard and echoing wail behind. She stopped for a moment before calling out.

Stacy stepped back with a gasp. She took a step back, but when the object had not moved, she looked closer and let out a scream as she realized she was staring at John’s bloodstained head. She ran screaming like a banshee through the path and away from the head of her boyfriend. She stopped for a moment as she tried to get some air back in her lungs. As she turned to run, a dark shape leapt out from the bushes. With one last scream, Stacy felt a sharp burning pain course through her body as she felt the last of her life drain from her

Creeping figures slithered out underneath the speckled night sky, not a single fragment outshining the moon at its fullest. Luminescence of the orb created a safe, guiding light for the wandering, yet it exposed them to the other creatures looming in the crevices of the forest. Two small, thin bodies weaved through the trees that surrounded them no matter where they turned. As the rustling of leaves sounded from a distance, tall forms towered over everything under their desolation. Trying to stay hidden in the shadows of the great oaks, the beings traveled in precaution.…

Today is going to be just like any other day, I sketched in my morning journal. The morning Baltimore sun shone past the skyscrapers of downtown, and light protruded through the silk blinds that covered half of the picture window in my room. I rose up from my queen bed. The sheets had become untucked and the comforter lay halfway off the edge. My back rested against the mahogany headboard with my head fitting perfectly between two of the wooden posts.…

In all of her accessible memories, she had yet to wake up without pain of some sort, despite medication dulling it when she was younger. She was distracted from her musings when a door opened across the cave like infirmary, admitting a cheerful man who could be heard humming to himself, before registering that he had an audience. He blinked, surprised, before asking, “Are you actually awake or is my sleep deprivation finally produced hallucinations?…
