They were quiet, thin but clearly had muscle work and were strong; they always stuck around within their family groups too, always talking with low enough voices that Riley couldn’t hear. All the late night runs and weapons sparring with Alec for the past month was catching up with her.
Over the past five years Alec had taught himself not to show his emotion – surprise, affection, hopefulness, hurt. Ever since their parents had died when out on an assignment in London, visiting the academy there. “I know I’ve been hard on you this past year, harder than any brother should be and I’m sorry. People didn’t know what to do when our parents died. Obviously everyone had to keep training us otherwise what we were born to do would be wasted.”
“You don’t have to remind me of our duty to kill demons in this life brother.” Riley said, “We solely exist to protect humans who can’t save themselves. Death is a natural consequence in our line of work and I’ve accepted it. I won’t fail tonight, I have a legacy to uphold to make mom and dad proud.”
“If anything doesn’t go to plan tonight then call me over, understand?” There was a tone of pride in his
