The girl had just stuffed some necessities into a carpet bag when she heard loud footsteps making their way toward her cabin.
Fearing for her life, she dropped her bag and grabbed an object from the floor to use as a weapon. She waited for the door to open, poised and ready to strike.

First, surprise flashed over his face, but it quickly changed to urgency as he told her, "Put that down and follow me. Now!" Jolted into action, the girl dropped her weapon—only now realizing it as a simple pen—and threw on a robe, tying it around her waist before grabbing her bag and filling it with as many things from her cabin as she could.
"Quickly, Isabella!", her tutor shouted, already making his way toward the stairs that led to the top deck. The girl scrambled after him, labored by her now heavy bag.
Finally, they reached the open night air. A gentle breeze billowed the robe and nightgown around the girl. Isabella paused, almost overwhelmed by the activity of the crew as they tried to defend the ship from the attackers. The captain, dressed regally with a sword attached to his side, addressed the girl and her tutor, "You will take this longboat to shore. We are not far out, but this craft cannot sail any closer without the risk of getting trapped in shallow waters. Once you land, you should follow this map," he handed a faded paper to her tutor, "It will take you to the nearest town. You will find safety there." As he turned away, and her tutor helped two of the crewmen put supplies into the small boat, she heard him mumble, "You'll have a better chance on land at least..." The comment made Isabella shiver, and she quickly entered the longboat when one of the crewmen offered a hand.
As the crew lowered the boat into the water, Isabella's stomach kept twisting into knots. She sent worried glances to her tutor, who was busily fixing the oars, and didn't notice her nerves. Finally, with the boat released onto the water, her tutor set off.
