Creative Writing: The Boat Ride To New Bark Town

The boat ride to New Bark Town wasn’t as bad as Elaina had expected. Honestly, she wasn’t sure what it was that she expected; this ride to the traditional trainers’ starting point was the only time she had traveled any great distance without her mother. No one singled her out because she was Sabrina’s daughter, and she doubted many people knew that Sabrina’s daughter was on board. Elaina spent most of the trip leaning over the railing and looking down at the water, thinking.
She would be brilliant. She would fail. She shoved away the alternating extremes and tried to focus on what kind of Pokémon she would take. There was no telling which kinds there would be.

At that moment, Elaina heard footsteps behind her and turned to see an older teenaged girl coming to them. The girl reached the doorway, and then Elaina realized she was blocking the passageway and scrambled away to make room. The girl entered the room without comment and announced, "Trainer number fifteen found a Yanma after forty-five minutes of looking at a group of the bugs." She glanced at Elaina. "Is this the last one?"

If Elaina could use telepathy, she would be screaming, No, stop! Why would you do that? Even without psychic abilities, Elaina clearly conveyed the message of oh Arceus please shut up. Her eyes grew wide and she looked straight at Elm. His mouth snapped shut mid-sentence.
Julie hadn’t noticed Elaina and she cocked her head at Elm’s sudden silence. Elm was staring, and Elaina blushed, and looked down self-consciously when Julie turned to look at her too. Usually, her glasses and habit not looking people in the eye hid her most obvious trait she had inherited from her mother – her bright pink eyes.
