James ran up and down the streets of his neighborhood gathering candy for his Halloween bag. He raced up Main Street, down Smith Street, across Bellaire Avenue and back to his house, eager to tear open some candy. “Be careful, James,” chided his mother in her all-too-sweet voice. “Your braces don’t come off for another six weeks. Don’t eat too many sweets.” She kissed him on the head and left the room smiling almost robot-like.
There’s no such thing as too much candy, Mom, thought James as he tore open his first chocolate bar. Not giving a second thought to what his mother had said, James ate and ate and then felt too tired and full to unwrap one more piece, so he headed upstairs to bed. When the lights upstairs clicked off, not all was still

Get off of me!” The candy was awake.
“Move your arm! Don’t sit on me! I’m much too important!” yelled Nick the Snickers.
“Honey Bear? Where are you? Arthur? What happened to the lights?” questioned Sweety.
Marty, the only smart one of the group, found his way out and switched on the light. One by one, the remaining candy filed out of the bag and onto the table. First came Nick, who was quite annoyed with the people he was stuck with. Then, Sweety and Arthur, whom Sweety was delighted to find. Last came small, quiet Tootsie.
“All right! All right! All right!” grimaced Nick while exaggeratedly rubbing out a kink in his neck. “Obviously, we are all stuck here because, for whatever reason, our young boy James doesn’t want to eat us… yet.” That last word aroused a gasp from Sweety’s mouth.
“Yes, yes. Such a tragedy that we might actually go where candy is supposed to go.”
I hope he goes first thought Tootsie, who stood meekly in the back of the room. As Nick went on and on about how he was important and how he knew what they were supposed to do, Tootsie tapped Marty on the shoulder.
“Uh, Sir? Um, what’s gonna happen to me?” questioned Tootsie

Tootsie was all alone. James came near the table and looked longingly at Tootsie. Then he picked her up, walked upstairs, and put her in the drawer next to his pencils. In the drawer, Tootsie met Tami the taffy and Carlos the caramel. They explained to Tootsie that her sheer stretchability and gooiness had spared her. Her qualities didn’t mix well with braces. They had been in the drawer since last Halloween and assured her that James never cleaned out his drawers and wasn’t particularly bright. She would soon be forgotten, but safe. An additional benefit, her sugary composition would promise a long life to enjoy the coziness of the drawer. Tootsie quickly acclimated to her new home and lived a long, happy life with tons of sticky friends by her

The morality of the characters in Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby can be questioned. Rather than merely good or bad, black or white, honest or dishonest, characters are often grey -- neither good nor bad but morally ambiguous. Though Nick Carraway is presented an honest narrator and objective observer who values trust, Nick Carraway, as a character, becomes involved in the moral ambiguity of the wealthy East Coast and inadvertently, he himself assumes some of the faults which he criticizes the other characters for, illistrating that even a fundamentally good character such as Nick can be tainted by the admiration of wealth. Nick’s honesty as a narrator is crucial to the integrity of the novel as a whole.…
