Creative Writing: The Beach

The boat entered the rapid and the speed increased immensely. Dylan’s arms were beginning to wear down after every nonstop stroke in the raging waters. The rapids were consistently lifting and smacking down the boat creating an enormous splash of water that kept smacking him in the face. He could see a rock approaching in the distance as he heard a loud “right turn” command from the captain. Dylan and the rest of the crew were already stroking with all their strength. The rock passed directly to the left of the boat and a quick and impactful drop occurred. Dylan took a quick peek back at the crew and noticed that the captain was launched from the boat and floating without them down river. He instantly took command and began screaming “forward” …show more content…
The day was long. The sun was sparkling on the water as it set over the canyon across the river from the campsite. The campsite was a big sand beach with a path that led through some trees where each crew tied their rainflies and set up their sleeping bags to sleep under for the night. Dylan felt a lot of tension within the crew upon arrival at the camp. He could feel that everyone was upset about the defeated day. As the night went on the mood eased for everyone. The group participated in a few games of sand volleyball and some old ritual games that were always played on the river. Everyone began to look to the positives of the day and realize that it was a blessing that no one was hurt, and everyone was safe. The night was beautiful. The roar of the river echoed and the beam of the newly started campfire lit up the canyon walls. Dylan and the rest of the group sat around the campfire and he could feel the positive energy that everyone was displaying. Dylan was truly happy at that moment with all his friends and the people he considered to be a second family. He looked around at each person around the fire and saw nothing but smiles on each face.
