“Don’t go, not yet. We wait till it’s darkest,” she said, her voice crackling. She petted Rolo and the dog settled her nose in her fingers. Dacka wasn’t afraid. Finally, transcending her fear, she knew this was war, this was real, this was life or death, from now on. Her hand held tight to her taser-laser. “Did you check your device?” She ventured. “Yes and I get no readings.” Franklin said back. “You shouldn’t until we reach their perimeter. Be wary not aggressive. We can’t be seen. Let’s synchronize.” Dacka continued. An hour and a half later they left their dark, safe, position and headed into what use to be their city. Bright intermittent street lights and menacing electronic billboards greeted them. The huge screens were kept on 24 hours …show more content…
All devices were reprogrammed. The citizens were on their knees, desperate, and pathetic. They didn’t even realize they were taken over. They were so brainwashed they trusted anything they saw and heard on their devices, it was their “god.” “No wonder they, we, were taken over, Keefer had said, they’re so f….in’ gullible and stupid, giving away any common sense, trusting anything “internet,”any internet stranger and now they’re helpless.” Furthermore, the demoralized city folk turned to their persecutors for salvation instead of fighting them off. Government was useless. Government had redirected their water to other locations leaving them on rationing. All work was stopped unless it was to guard the leftover water and find the rebels. The rebels knew who took the water and gutted the town but they were now water terrorists and the locals already were hateful remaining “free Americans” due to the propaganda campaign of the Maa Shene regime. “Good to know,” said Keefer, we’ll reprogram our devices, tools and weapons too. What’s the dog’s name?” “Rolo, replied Franklin, why didn’t you kill it?” “No, no, replied Keefer, dogs are too smart and too valuable, besides we are not murderers. We just want our lives, not prisoners or body counts.” Franklin, curious, continued, “How did you set this place up? My friend said he knew of you but I never did.” Keefer pointed out,”Your friend was our best tech-man, helped build this electronic data chamber, and is a spy in town. He saw the Maa Shene regime coming before they took our town, our water. He even knew the country was silently being seized, and warned the locals, but all they did was look to their devices and television sets and believed every word they were told. The Maa Shene regime came and instantly controlled the communication, then the water, before anyone could recheck their device or turn the channel of their television.” Keefer

All Quiet on the Western Front Rewrite We were quiet on the ride into the foreign village, taking in the sights that would be ordinary to anyone else. The thought of simply being somewhere far away from the front was conversation enough. The passengers included myself, Katczinsky, Tjaden, Kropp, Müller, Detering, and a new, young soldier by the name of Arnold Kirchner. Kirchner is 18, but has a boyish face that presents him as no older than 14 and his eyes have had a permanent craven nature since he first arrived.…

Dilville may sound like the perfect city, but when you enter the rugged parts you will find that coming here was the wrong decision. This city plus its people are very suspicious of anything, because JFK just got shot, and it’s the height of the Cold War. I am Rory Williams, and I like chasing the bad guys, putting them in jail, and protecting the citizens from all sorts of danger. But our world may not be like yours, because everybody are animals. My job may range from walking an old lady across the street to arresting Dilville’s crime lord, but right now, I want to find out who is the raccoon spy.…

The flight to Panama was long and bumping as I flew aboard a C-141, this aircraft is no longer in service. As I departed the aircraft, I was met by oppressive heat and humidity. As I looked around my new surroundings, I could not help but think that it looked as if someone had laid a giant green carpet over the landscape. It was definitely the most beautiful country that I had seen and, in my opinion it still is. The tarmac was busy with all kinds of activity going on.…

On Monday night about 8 o'clock, I reached the guard, about 100 people passed it and went towards the custom house where the king's money is lodged. They immediately surrounded the sentry posted there, and with clubs and other weapons threatened to execute their vengeance on him. I was soon informed by a townsman their intention was to carry off the soldier from his post and murder him. I immediately sent a non-commissioned officer and 12 men to protect both the sentry and the king's money, and very soon followed myself to prevent, if possible, all disorder. Nay, so far was I from intending the death of any person that I suffered the troops to go to the spot where the unhappy affair took place without any loading in their pieces; nor did I ever give orders for loading them.…

I only watched helplessly as the turquoise vase wobbled off of its shelf, seemingly falling in slow motion until it hit the cold stone, erupting in a firework of glass. He swiveled his head around, eyes widened, pale face, and trembling hands. My hands automatically went up to clasp my mouth, muffling a scream that never came out. He looked at me, and I looked at him. I looked at him, and he looked at me.…
