The ups and downs of buildings,
And the flatness of bare land.
Smoke rose from the once magnificent city.
Buildings were crumbled,
Homes were destroyed. Exhaustion was etched in her face.
Her amber eyes danced with victory,
But her face held no emotion. Her hair billowed in the wind,
Brown wavy locks wild and free—
Free from the heaviness of accessories;
Free from the crown. Her blood-red dress, torn and dirtied,
Sagged against her pale delicate body.
Her sore body ached all over.
Regardless of her bloodied body,
She felt relief.
It was over.

She looked over the sea of land,
The ups and downs of buildings,
And the flatness of bare land.
Smoke rose from the once magnificent city.
Buildings were crumbled,

Mt. Evans Standing on a massive rock, I overlooked an array of majestic, snow capped mountains. Aspens covered the area like quills on a porcupine. The horizon was replaced with a jagged line of rocky peaks that surrounded us on all sides. I could see for what seemed like hundreds of miles in each direction. Below me, the side of the mountain was covered in a layer of different sized rocks, that ranged from the size of a pea to the size of a house.…

Outside, the city had become a shapeless, billowing cloud with no edge behind it, while the town itself seemed to have molded and crumbled, like my insides. The wind was sharp against my face as I sprinted through the parkland. Families lying under trees and patches of green blurred my vision. The sky was a concrete grey, and I could see trees and steep hills which faded into the skyline with the rest of the world.…

Key to the Cornerstone Gusty winds snaked across the sandy African landscape, bursting drafts of gritty heat upon the cracked ground below. Draughts weaved through the clay houses barren and lifeless with not a soul to be seen. The village had been deserted. Piling in small heaps against the rugged walls of the shacks, the sandstorm collected its silt within crooks and nicks wherever it could find them. Tousled door flaps snapped and wagged in the perturbation.…

Wind bustled through the branches of the trees, making the leaves howl in their symphony. Walking along the gravel path in the woods makes you realize how intricate the clash between weather and nature can be. Two natural forces both in harmony and constantly fighting. I slowed my BMW down and turned my music off as I shoved my map and directions into my Marc Jacobs designer purse and made my turn onto the crumbling road. An eerie draft blew in from my windows, which I quickly rolled up, as I drove past rows of devastated apartment buildings. Some of the windows on the apartments were hastily boarded up with plywood and through others violent shouts erupted; garbage scattered the street creating a trail leading to the overflowing mounds of trash falling out of the dumpsters, which reeked of a pungent stench and created an involuntary nose cringe. I was anxious to turn around and drive far away from the unfamiliar and unappealing street, wishing I could wipe the image of this place from my memory. My uneasiness…
