Autumn hesitated.
“I’m not going to hurt you or anything,” he joked, hand still extended to her.

So as you know, my name is Charlie and I am head of new recruits at Shapeshifting International. We are an organization that regulates and protects shapeshifters all over the world. But what even is a shapeshifter, you might be wondering? Well, a shapeshifter is a human who can transform into an animal, like you and me. A shapeshifter’s true animal form will reveal itself around that person’s coming of age, or 18th birthday. A multitude of people like to remain human at times, but they will eventually feel the need to return to their animal form and will shapeshift back, simply because it is easier to be an animal than a

I only watched helplessly as the turquoise vase wobbled off of its shelf, seemingly falling in slow motion until it hit the cold stone, erupting in a firework of glass. He swiveled his head around, eyes widened, pale face, and trembling hands. My hands automatically went up to clasp my mouth, muffling a scream that never came out. He looked at me, and I looked at him. I looked at him, and he looked at me.…

I shrank back --but the closing walls pressed me resistless onward. At length for my seared and writhing body there was no longer an inch of foothold on the firm floor of the prison. The city of Split is inhuman because of the way they let the people live. Some human beings can do such horrific things because they are either on drugs, insane or have no compassion for others. The thing that makes a terrorist a Hitler or Hussein is the fact that they can kill people without feeling any remorse for what they have done at all. “The sports hall in Split reeked of sweat, not from athletes but from refugees” (Maass 473). This is not an ordinary time, there were people coming from different cities because of the war.…

When I was a child, I was terrified of the dark. I still am, but back when I was around six years old I couldn’t go a full night without crying out for one of my parents to search beneath my bed or in my closet for whatever monster I thought was waiting to eat me. Even with a light on, I would still see dark shapes moving around the corners of the room, or strange faces looking in on me from my bedroom window. My parents would do their best to calm me down, telling me that it was just a bad dream or a trick of the light, but in my young mind I was positive that the second I fell asleep, the monsters would get to me. Most of the time I would just hide under the blankets until I became tired enough to stop worrying, but every now and then I would…

R.J. Meaddough, III, The Death of Tommy Grimes (1962) Tommy had become part of the ground. At least he felt that way as he watched the dew and the daylight make giant shiny cobwebs of the treetops. The sun had not yet risen and a mist lay over the ground, which made the forest seem rather spooky to him.
