Kill them all? Usually our missions involved three or four deaths at the very most, and Kushim took care of those for me whenever he could. The way Senok was explaining things it sounded like a few dozen deaths, if not more. Kushim and I exchanged an uneasy glance, and then I knew he didn’t like it either.
Senok went on with the details of our mission, oblivious to our inner turmoil. “The leaders of the godling organization, and most of the underlings, are currently stationed in North America, in the place they are now calling Pennsylvania. You will be provided with a map, as I’m fairly sure that you haven’t been there since it was colonized by the Europeans.”
He was wrong about that, in fact I was a large part of the reason it was colonized,

“Therefore you won’t need skinmorphs to change your appearance.” Normally I would have practically started dancing if that was said, as the skinmorphs, full body suits made to completely change us into someone else, were extremely uncomfortable. They were usually needed as, in the past, many humans in the areas we were assigned to were biased against our dark skin, and my femininity. However, due to my angst about the nature of our assignment I didn’t even crack a smile. Uncharacteristically unaware of my discomfort, Neria continued on. “By your menagerie there is a tent for your first night, and suitcases containing modern clothes and selfown, which contain your bios, along with all the things that they can usually do.” Kushim looked excited at the prospect of a ‘selfown,’ on the other hand I had no idea what that was. I made a mental note to ask him what a ‘selfone’ is and why we needed one. At the very least I was sure that I would know how to put on my clothes, as Kushim never updated his style except for missions. At this time he was still wearing a military uniform of the same style that we wore for our last mission. “Meeting adjourned. I will now walk them down to the menagerie so they can leave.” Senok stepped up to do just that when Sambrye spoke …show more content…
“I think that is a great idea. Children, go with Sambrye to the menagerie, and pay close attention to any wisdom she feels the need to impart on you before you leave.”
Knowing that he could not viably argue with Tepton without support, Senok decided to at the very least get the last word. “Very well, but don’t take too long.”
We walked down the hallway back to our quarters, but that time with Sambrye at our side. We turned at one of the many doors in our hallway, picking up our suitcases at the entrance. The door opened up to a room so large that I had yet to find any of the walls except for the one with the door, and a ceiling too high for any ladder to reach. Our menagerie housed a domesticated version of every plant and animal that ever existed on Earth. There are so many, that every time you enter you are sure to find a new species that you never saw before.
As we entered Kushim called for our steeds, the peleonnies. The peleonnies were a special type of anpomor, each with the head of a white rabbit, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dove with a single golden stripe that folds into a mane.
We started strapping on the harnesses when Sambrye interrupted us. “I noticed during the meeting that you two seemed a bit...uncomfortable with the

Regret is the feeling of stepping into a seemingly calm ocean's water- only to be dragged underneath the surface by the under current. It was also, Jace resolved, the feeling of a corset tightening around a not-so-thin body. She took another deep breath as the cursed item of clothing pulled her insides further inside; if that was even possible at this point. The process felt much like a boa constricting its prey. Though, a boa would have gotten the job done faster; she sighed irritated shifting to her other foot, having been in the same position for fifteen minutes now, her back had begun to ache.…
