Creative Writing: Pennsylvania's History

Improved Essays
Did you hear about the old abandoned house in Berwick Pennsylvania? Well I have, I heard it from my best friend's, friend's dead uncle, John. He said it started a long time ago in a library. The library was brand new, just built. John was 16 years old and was heading towards the library to find a nonfiction book about Pennsylvania's history for a research project. When he entered the library he felt something strange, but he didn't know what was making him feel this way. He went to the nonfiction section to look for a book to get the assignment done. The book he found was called Pennsylvania's History. Set aside it's boring name, it looked very ancient. When John picked it up he got an eerily feeling, like the one he got when he walked into …show more content…
John quickly turned on the light and looked where the sound came from. A few minutes later he found it on the floor by his desk, the book. Then, without and thought he opened the book and started to read, but by the second page, he was interrupted by a folded crumbled piece of paper that flew out of his book. John then got the same eerily feeling from earlier, only now it felt much worse. His body felt like needles were being struck into his body over and over again. He knew getting this book was a bad idea, but at the same time wondered what the feelings inside his body are trying to tell him. He started to unfold the paper that revealed a message that said, "Meet me at the abandoned house by the library at midnight. The place where you got this book from or you'll be sorry!" After John read this the eerily feeling was overpowered with the feeling of being scared. He then called his trusted friend, Mary. He told her about the situation, but he found it strange that she was awake and so happy the whole time he was talking her. Then she said to meet her there and they'll do it together. He agreed and started to get around to …show more content…
As time ticked by, John felt more scared as he watched the time, 11:58 pm. Only two minutes left till his time. He was scared to death. Then he saw Mary, she was wide awake. They entered the house, then all feelings started to hover over his shoulders. Slowing him with every move they wouldn't go away, then John knew he wasn't going to leave this alive. Once inside Mary started coughing and choking, begging for him to help, but Mary never did. He trusted Mary and would save her, but this is not the Mary he sees any other day. Then, she stands up and stares at him without a sound. John then figures out why he is here, Mary, she planned for this to happen, but why. He couldn't believe it, the one he trusted, now turned and was going to kill him. John quickly pushes Mary and bolts to the door, but she is too fast and runs and jumps on his back. She reaches for his neck, but then John swings back into the wall. Mary losing balance falls and hurts her arm, but it doesn't seem to bother her. She still has enough power to push John to the floor, but was interrupted by a another man. He slams the door wide open. Holding the gun, he points to her head. First shot, miss. Second shot, a hit, right in her arm. She doesn't show the pain, but notices the warning and backs away slowly. The man, in a very deep voice says, "Never speak of this to no one!" John ran all the way home and never spoke about it until his

“Eveline’s Visitant” by Mary Elizabeth Braddon and “The Dead” by James Joyce are both short stories that show strong examples of a “haunting”. A haunting is something or someone from a past time that reoccurs in appearance or in thought, usually bad or regrettable. Although both stories represent a haunting throughout the story, each author efficiently portrays two separate types of a haunting: one being a ghost, and one being a past. Braddon’s short story “Eveline’s Visitant” tells a tale of a young man in France named Hector.…

I would love to have dinner with George Washington because I want to hear about all of these accomplishments and how it was like being the very first president of the United States. George Washington was the last soldier standing out of 86 soldiers. He was also the only surviving soldier of the militia army. There seems to be a story that described him as “bullet proof president”, and that is what interests me into meeting Mr. Washington. During his lifetime was called “father of his country.”…

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, every person will want self-fulfillment if all their lower needs are met. In today’s society, for most people, the lower needs such as eating and shelter are easily looked after, and so, leave most people with the desire to receive self-actualization. There are many ways that people can achieve this, but when circumstances bound a person, their options become greatly limited. Sometimes when someone is placed under restriction of society or others, he or she may retreat into his or her mind which may result in a loss of reality. This idea is developed in Charlotte Gilman’s “The Yellow Wall-Paper” through the suffering, unnamed narrator and her struggle to receive self-fulfillment…
