Creative Writing: Peering Over The Ridge

Superior Essays
Peering over the ridge, I scan the land. Looking for an unfamiliar shape on the land, I find nothing. Sighing, I return to my shelter. Waking up to a strange noise and then finding nothing really set the mood of the day so far. Almost creepy. I normally am not disturbed by scary things, but in The Underworld ,which is what I have named this odd land, anything can happen. I always must be alert. Getting a drink from a nearby pool of water, I thought about the two months I have been here. I had been falling through the void, and then I was here. In The Underworld. At first I was confused, and I wasn't sure what to do. There was some water next to me, which I drank. But during that, I heard a low, deep growl. Turning around, I looked into the …show more content…
Colors, flashing bright lights, obscured my vision. I was still staggering to get away. Those eyes, crushing that thing deep inside me. And then it was gone. Shaking, tears streaming down my face, I fell into water. I couldn't move, couldn't save myself. I was going to die. Without any part of me moving, I was lifted from the water.

Gasping as I was held in midair, a voice said, "I have and shall save you, do not fear."

And then I was dropped. Waking up next to a cave which is now my home, I was parched and hungry. I searched for a pool of water, and during so, I observed the odd color of the land. I found water, so I drank it, and this time watching out for anything hidden in the trees around me. Not seeing anything, I head back to the cave. Inside, I find a dark blue jewel with a small hole going through it, and smiling at the beauty in such a strange world, put it in my pocket for the time being. Hunger still rumbling my stomach, I know that I need to find something to eat. I look outside and find a dead animal at the front of the cave. Tossing it inside the cave, I prepare to make a fire. Gathering wood, I wonder if it is really flammable, because nothing seems to catch from

I test this out, and the wood does catch fire, but instead of being being orange and yellow, the wood turns the fire red. A deep, dark red. Like the demon's eyes. Shivering, I turned to the dead animal. It looks like no animal on Earth, almost like a cross between a rabbit and a wolf. Strange. I found a sharp stone near me and cut the creature up, then cook the pieces and ate. This was luck, or something else. Whatever it is, I wasn't going to take it for granted, and figure out a way to hunt. Satisfied with my decision, I thought back to when I would hunt rabbits with my father. We had used bows, which I have no clue how

Seeing nothing, I searched for the snake on both sides of the tall, scorched golden grass and rocks for approximately thirty seconds until I realized my brother was insane—there was nothing near us. We all decided it would be best just to forget about so we continued up the hill. When we got to the top of the mountain, there was a bench made of various sized slate grey, oval rocks; it was ancient and slowly deteriorating but surprisingly stable. It looked like the Native Americans put it together before Columbus took all their land in 1492. As I assembled myself onto the bench, I admired the opening of the trees that was roughly ten feet wide; I was seeing the world at just the right…

What I believed to be the cold dead hands of the grim reaper plucked me off the ground and dragged me up the hill. A light much brighter than a million suns filled my eyes, and I heard someone with a formal voice call my name. To keep the light out of my eyes I kept them close passing back out and waking up when the carriage I was in ran over a rock in the middle of the dirt road. Samuel and Julia were siting across from me or at least I thought I saw them until Julia blew a cloud of green specks that sparkled like stairs into my face. The specks traveled up my nose and down my throat causing me to fall back to sleep.…
