The full moon shone and it was a few minutes before midnight. The smell of flesh filled the dense air of Jianfeng Mountain. Paws scurried across the dirt, kicking the dirt off the moist, forest floor. They hastened their speed, aroused at the strong scent of blood.

“Flesh! It’s the scent of flesh!” one called out. He howled in excitement amongst the rock. The rest of the pack dashed across the forest. Nearby was a slim, yet muscular figure- Yi Xing, a young werewolf in the pack. Yi Xing was flawless; fair skin, doe eyes, puckered pink lips and mahogany hair. He had soft, child-like features.

Yi Xing slowly morphed into the shape of a wolf. His sapphire eyes and snowy fur gleamed under the silvery beams of the moon. He began to trail after the pack. He quickened his pace as the boisterous sound of skin

In the middle was the carcass: stinking and gutted, lying on the dirt. The torso was already slit from the Adam’s apple down to the inner thighs; It looked like a sacrificial slaughter.

“Mine!” one growled. He rapaciously tugged on the ripped intestine. However, the latter was not fazed- He just stood in a stance, nibbling on the ileum. This was his chance. With poise and grace, Yi Xing audaciously traversed towards the littered carcass and thrashed the arm around, ripping it off the ligaments, tearing it like a piece of paper. He made his escape and dived into the dense forest.

Nearby, was a cloaked figure intently gazing on the bloody scene. Her black, hooded cloak that touched the blades of grass flapped with the direction of the wind. She, too, was flawless. Just like Yi Xing, she had porcelain skin. Other flawless features she possessed were cold, grey eyes like glass; bee-stung, cherry lips; jet black hair and soft features- She looked like a

Studying human remains dating back more than 5,000 years ago is typically quite difficult. Although Otzi’s, also known as “iceman”, remains are over 5,000 years old, archaeologists are able to perform an autopsy him due to to the fact he was frozen in ice. When Otzi died he had fallen down the Italian Alps landing him in an advancing glacier. The glacier had preserved his body in ice so well that archaeologists were able to extract DNA, pollen, and tissue samples to find out about his origin, diet, and the natural environment 5,000 years ago. Archaeologists determined that Otzi’s last meal was ibex, red deer, and eikorn.…

The day was beautiful, too beautiful. The trek to this spot had tired the two families, but now it was time to relax, and cool off. The families gathered around the cascading flow of water that was refreshingly cool in the intoxicating late summer heat. Two brothers looked down at the many glittering pools gathered at the bottom of the immense waterfall. The waterfall was surreal; being from the small, and secluded state of Wisconsin the brothers had never something so large and impressive in nature.…

In the short stories “What of this Goldfish, Would You Wish,” and “The Wife’s Story,” by Elgar Karet and Ursulu K. LeGun, respectively, and the majority of the opinion by Justice Brennan, ”Texas v. Johnson,” characters or people do not show acceptance of others who are different. In the “Goldfish” story a young man from Israel named Yonatan decided to make a documentary of him going door-to-door to ask strangers what they would wish upon if they had a goldfish that could grant them three wishes. The Crossing: A Literary Analysis Man can easily feel miniscule in comparison to the grandeur of mother nature. Cormack McCarthy’s The Crossing details the emotions of the main character after losing his wolf, and it illustrates a dramatic dichotomy between mankind and nature. The excerpt’s inclusion of sacred language and drawn-out sentence structure concerning the burial of the wolf suggests that the experience was both solemn and awe-inspiring to the protagonist.…

The Terrible Glorification of War in “Chickamauga” To those who have not seen war through the eyes of a soldier, the prospect of going to battle for one’s country, land, rights, or religion may seem glorious, or even romantic. But to those, like Ambrose Bierce, who fought for the Union Army in the Civil War, war is a deadly game that can leave its survivors physically and emotionally scarred. Bierce utilized his talents as a writer after the war to share the horrors that he witnessed and experienced with the public. Young men are killed, maimed and mangled. Families are torn apart and bystanders are annihilated – collateral damage.…

Lord of the Flies is a book all about sin and how a group of young and innocent boys descended into savagery. While I was reading this book I kept thinking about how the Seven Deadly Sins helped the boys into madness. In this blog, I will outline how each of the Seven Deadly sins It all started out so innocent when the boys went and elected a leader like in a democracy. The problem with this is that it sparks a rivalry and Jack gets filled with envy “and the freckles on Jack’s face disappeared under a blush of mortification. He started up, then changed his mind and sat down again while the air rang.”…

Literature 2 November 2014 Raise the Red Lantern: Comparison Paper of Literary to Film Despite the novella’s publish in 1990, one of Su Tong’s most notable literary oeuvres, as critics would acclaim, Wives and Concubines, speaks volumes to a socialist reality in its cinematic representation of 1920s China. Abandoning the country’s heavily political influenced rule of creative expression, Tong stripped his work of traditional Chinese custom, seeking to provide the people of China with a form artistry completely straying from the standard traditional confinements artists faced of that era.…

The second “wolf” in this story is drastically subtler than the outwardly terrifying worm creature, this wolf is less physical and more conceptual. This ferocious and terrifying “wolf” is the universally known terrible feeling that we call grief. Grief is defined as “keen mental suffering or distress over affliction or loss; sharp sorrow; painful regret.” This definition fits perfectly with the story presented in Emily Carroll’s “Through the Woods” in the short story “The Nesting Place”. Our dreary yet relatable main character Mabel, or Bel, is not only haunted by the monster in this story; she is also haunted by the grief that comes with the loss of her mother.…

Transformation in American Born Chinese In the American Born Chinese, Gene Yang presents the theme of transformation and identity through the two foils, Jin Wang and Wei Chen Sun’s, shared symbolic transformer toys. During the introduction to Jin’s story arc, Yang punctuates an old Chinese parable on adaptation with depictions of a young Jin fiddling with a red transformer, immediately establishing the transformer as a symbol of change. Following that instance, Yang illustrates the early life of Jin and three other Chinese American boys where both the cartoons and action figures revolved around a central transformer motif, further emphasizing the unifying quality of the theme of transformation.…
