He didn’t pull the trigger. George started at the gun hopelessly, he just couldn’t do it. He could never hurt Lennie. George let go of his grip, allowing the cold, heavy metal to fall on the crispy autumn brown leaves under his feet, on the gray ashes .
“George? Can we get that place now?” Lennie turned his head back, curiously looking at George’s blank expression.
“Lennie, you listen to me now, god dammit! They are coming for you now! The men are coming for you! Now you need to go back to the brush now and wait for my call. You heard me?” George woke up from realization and said fiercely.
“Yes, I heard you, George.” Lennie quickly hide back into the brushes.
Seconds later, the sound of running feet echoed the forest. Slim’s voice shouted,

“Where is Lennie, where is that son-of-a-bitch?! He killed my wife, we can’t let him escape!” Curley ran furiously toward George. “Tell me! Where is he? I must kill him with my bare hands!” George yanked Curley’s hands away.
“ I don’t know, Curley. He’s not here.” George murmured under his breath.
Slim walked quietly up to George. “ It’s okay, we’ll find him.”
“ He’s here!” Carlson shouted. “ He is right behind the brushes!”
“ George! George! Le’s go of me! George! Help me! He’s hurtin’ me!” Lennie began to cry with fright. He struggled violently unders Carlson’s hands as Curley’s wife did when Lennie broke her neck. Carlson, however, did not loosen his strong grip, he pushed intensely to where the men are gathered. Lennie fell to the ground, his face covered in dirt.
Lennie looked up at George, who sat there stiffly. “ George, you ain’t gonna leave me, ain’t you?” he whispered.
George didn’t answer, he just sat stiffly and stared vacantly at the his feet. Suddenly the woods went to a dead silence. Noise stopped. The silence was weird. No one said a word. Slim sat down, next to George and observed his expression
