Creative Writing: Nancy Eschbach Forest River Trail

One day in September a friend and I decided to explore a path by my house I’d never walked on before. The trail was about 200 yards south of my house. As we walked towards the entrance of the trail we discussed what our lives were like before high school, recounting the memories that defined who we were. There was a sign that greeted us at the entrance reading “Nancy Eschbach Forest River Trail”. The trail was close in proximity to my house, but I had never actually walked on this trail before. Throughout my entire life, a rusty gate guarded by a weathered lock had blocked off all access to as to what was beyond it. “I wonder what else is back here” Sam replied.
As we progressed through the woods, we came across some interesting amenities. Near the Meramec River, there was a concrete shaped box. I was puzzled. I had never seen anything like it before and it was odd how it was built close to the Meramec River. I examined it and couldn’t quite make out what the purpose of it was or what it could have been. I would love to know what the purpose behind it really is, but for now, that still remains a mystery.
After checking out the Concrete box we transitioned our way to the dirt path that stripped its way along the Meramec, this path wasn’t a part of the trail. Sam and I really didn’t talk much during this part of our walk, we both just took in our surroundings. Eventually, the river curved off away from the main channel. Because of this curve we had to change our walking direction 45 degrees to the right of us.
The next thing I saw was a gigantic sheet of metal similar to the look of a dam but that is not what it was. After walking uphill we came close to this dam like structure and discovered what seemed to be an abandon industrial
