Creative Writing: My Trip To The Tundra Biome

Improved Essays
Dear Coach Williams, I have been a year long journey to the Tundra biome. It is very cold here and snows majority of the time. Summers bring wildflowers, but other than that it is mostly snow. This biome is found in the Arctic and has absolutely no trees and it does not get much rain here either. There is a lot of animals here: sheep, mountain goats, birds, grey wolves, polar bears, and very few other species. The available period for growing things in summer is 50 to 60 days because the sun shines 24 hours a day. The very few plants and animals here are barely surviving because of global warming. The average temperature is 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The Tundra is dramatically changing due to global warming. The yearly rainfall is 6 to 10 …show more content…
The temperature is around 18 degrees Fahrenheit. The summers are shorter and the winters are longer. Animals like Caribou migrate frequently. Nights can last for weeks in the winter. The Tundra is a type of desert in terms of precipitation, it receives very little rainfall. The Arctic Tundra is the youngest biome in the world- it formed only 10,000 years ago. When the snow melts, The Tundra has marshes, bogs, and lakes. It is very windy here, the winds blow between 30-60 miles per hour. The predators of the Tundra are wolves, polar bears, wolverines, and arctic foxes. There are only 1,700 species of plants in this area- which is not very much. Willows only grow to about 3 inches tall. This biome is known a carbon dioxide sink- this means it takes in more carbon dioxide than it makes. Pollution has affected the air, lakes, and rivers. When summer happens, the permafrost on top layer melts long enough to grow and reproduce plants. This biome is very fragile. The word “Tundra” means treeless land in Finnish. This is the least inhabited place on earth, it is too cold for humans to live comfortably here. It covers 20% of the Earth’s

The tundra is defined as a large, treeless, and almost flat open space. They are located in the uppermost regions of North America, Europe, and Asia. In the tundra, most of the months’ average temperature is under the freezing point. The winters are long and harsh; in contrast, the summers are short and somewhat warm; however, the average monthly temperature is never above 10°C. Evaporation is poor, so there is very little precipitation and when there is, it’s dispersed evenly throughout the year.…

Climate change also allows for invasive species who are better adapted to the climate to become new competitors. A new invasive species to rise is cheat grass which is new competition for the plant cover. Another effect global warming has on the park is the snow on the mountain peaks to melt earlier and this causes less water for animals and plants in the summer. The warmer temperature in the summer allow more organisms to survive during the winter causing for a much greater population.…
