Creative Writing: Moving To Michigan

I hear the familiar sound of my ebony curtains scraping against the cold, steel rod they're hanging on. The dark washes away with warm sunlight. It floods my room and drowns my face, causing my eyes to bunch up in discomfort. "Get up, Kelsey. The movers will be here at 12:00." My mother states as she walks around my room gathering the possessions I had forgotten to put in my carry on. I peel myself out of my cozy bed and quiver when my feet make contact with the frigid floor. "Today is the day." I think to myself. Today is the day I'm leaving my small home in Kentucky, and moving to Michigan.

I've lived in the great "Bluegrass State" my entire life. The little town I'm currently resided in is home to the most small-minded bigot's you'll ever meet. So, when my father told me he had landed a job in Michigan, I was ecstatic. I'm no longer going to be surrounded by xenophobe's and Trump supporters! Well, at least I hope not. "Kelsey, are you finished getting ready? The movers are finished and we're ready to go." My mother says in an irritated voice. "Yes, mom. I have to collect my phone charger, I'll be out in a second." It's the first time I'm seeing the house in person, my family had drove up here a few weeks ago to scope out the house and make sure there was no water damage or leaky faucets. The house was breathtaking, quite possibly the absoulte most gorgeous house I've ever laid my eyes on. The house is a dusty white pigment with black detailing, it's contains two stories with an attic and a basement. Inside it's laced with old paintings that the previous owners abandoned, each one more beautiful than the next. I decided to take a tour around my new home and pick out my

HOUSE ON MANGO STREET While reading “The house on mango street”, everything in the book seemed to get progressively became contorted for the innocent girl named Esperanza. In the beginning of the story the Family had moved a couple of times prior to the last and having to move again having more complications with broken water pipes, and the landlord refusing to fix them leaving them no other choice but to advance to the next home. Esperanza describes her name as being an awful name with too many letters to her sounding boring, yet saying that it has a beautiful meaning; “hope” a very unique way to describe a name I would say. My grandmother's name is also Esperanza, which makes me wonder if my grandma might have shunned her name at some point…

It gets stupidly hot in Danielsville, Louisiana, especially around summer. This would be fine I guess if we had something to do, to keep our mind off of the heat but there isn’t anything to do. Danielsville, Louisiana has three churches (Pentecostal), twice as many bars, one high school and no books stores or libraries. This means you’re either too drunk to read, or too Christian to read anything good. Big enough to have a mayor’s house, but not big enough to be on any map of any kind, it’s the kind of town where everyone knows your name and basically everything about you.…

That only meant four eggs for us so we made more bacon to compensate. We followed the Platte River for one hundred seventy miles before we reached the California Crossing. My legs feel like they are falling off.…

Sleeping peacefully in her bed, Laura was cradling a pillow to her chest. The sun was beaming through her blinds causing the woman to stir.
