Norma is in a fancy dress. The fireplace is decorated with stockings and garland and the christmas tree is full of lights and all kinds of ornaments with lots of presents all around. The coffee table is full of cookies and candy canes waiting to get eaten. You can smell the turkey cooking in the oven.

Roy (on the phone). Hello?
Mimsey (on the phone). Hi, I was just letting you know we are going to be there in about thirty minutes.
Roy (on the phone, excitedly). We’ll be ready

Well, why are you going outside?
Roy. I’m just doing something to surprise Suzy. Don’t say anything to anybody.
[He runs out the door to get the ladder he had set out earlier. With only five minutes left until they get here he rushed to the back of the house and sets up the ladder. He climbs up and gets ready.]
Norma (talking out loud to herself). Oh my they are going to be here any second and I don’t have any of the main dishes ready.
Mimsey (walking in the door). We’re here.
Norma (under her breath). Oh my.
Borden (calmly sitting on the couch with everybody else). What is that noise coming from the chimney?
Norma (lying). It's been doing that off and on.
Roy (deep voice). Ho ho ho. Suzy, Santa is coming with your presents.
Suzy (excited). Santa, is that really you.
Roy. Yes, I’m coming down right now with your presents.
[Roy jumps down the chimney and gets stucks]
Borden. What was that. Santa are you okay?
Roy (in a Santa voice). Yeah I’m fine, but I think I’m stuck.
Suzy (angry) Grandma, why is did Santa get stuck. It's all your fault, your chimney should be cleaned so Santa can fit.

In 1990 my father, Robert Stiens, only 22 years old, was in a relationship with a woman named Melissa Huber. He had been in this relationship for some time and had already had two children with Melissa. His relationship with her parents was one that was very strained to say the least. The father of Melissa hated my dad so much that by this point in time he had already threatened to call the police several times just for being on the property. They could never seem to agree on anything, and a tension had been brewing for quite some time.…

A Psychoanalytical Approach to “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Christmas is a time of celebration, joy, generous offerings, spending time with loved ones, and most importantly, coming together as a community. For the most part, everyone loves Christmas; except for the Grinch. In Dr.Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the Grinch is portrayed as a bitter, vengeful, old man who hates the entirety of the Christmas season. His indignant attitude is especially evident when he overlooks the Whos down in Whoville during the holidays: “he stood there on Christmas Eve, hating the Whos, staring down from his cave with a sour, grinchy frown, at the warm lighted windows below in their town” (Suess, 10-12).…

The ‘76 Chevelle Sammy loves working on cars. From the day she stepped into the dusty garage with her dad that sunny, spring day, she fell in love with the organized chaos of the family garage. It was her grandpa’s garage, or as he called it “The Haven for Hellions”. Everyone in the family knew that was the place to go for stress-relief, calming entertainment, or, at times, the place where all anger and tension bubbled to the surface. You never knew what to expect when you walked through the old, rusty door.…

Tamales Through Time This year’s craziness and smells of carne and my family gathering in my grandparents’ kitchen brings a big, bubbly smile to my face, like always, because I know this means the official start of Christmas, and Christmas means I get to be with my family and Santa is going to bring me presents! My mom says that she heard that I’m on Santa’s nice list for the 5th year in a row! I always look forward to tamale making because I get to be around all my cousins and aunts and uncles and watch them make yummy food for our Christmas Eve feast while I make gingerbread houses! And every year when I ask if I can help this time, grandma always explains while grinning that “you can’t help with the tamales until you’re tall enough to reach the counter because someone so tiny will get knocked into the masa and then we will have tamales that taste like Alejandria!…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…
