After getting drunk, they beat their wives. I wondered if they drank because their nightmares gave them an unquenchable thirst. I wondered if they beat their wives because they were trained to look at woman as a beach to take like they took Normandy. I didn’t want to be like them. I didn’t know what was happening to me, but I shivered as I shared a cup of ‘Irish Whiskey’ with my mother. “Jed, you’ve been staring out the window for a long time. What do you see,” she asked? “I’m looking at the snow.” I answered, wondering if I was developing the 100 yard stare that afflicted some veterans.
