Creative Writing: Locker In Highfield High School

Great Essays
As Denise walked through the hallway of Highfield Highschool deep in thought and with a frown on her pretty face, she almost collided with a few other students. In fact she appeared to be in such deep thought that she was just walking to her locker on autopilot. Quite a few students at Highfield High were paying more attention to their phone’s than where they were going and would suddenly look up then have to swerve out of the way to avoid colliding with Denise. Luckily, Denise arrived at her locker without injury or injuring those around her. Denise stopped automatically in front of her locker and stared at it with dark unseeing eyes. Her best friend Liz approaches and walks up to her own locker which is right beside Denise’s. “Hey!”, she …show more content…
“Denise? You in there?”, Liz tries again and still does not gain a response. Liz sighs, it’s only eight in the morning and already she’s done with her best friend. She unlocks her locker, gets what she needs for her first three classes, and then slams the door of her locker shut harshly. Denise suddenly comes alive again with a gasp and a little jump. She turns in the direction of where the harsh sound came from and finally see’s Liz. “Well, that was rude,” Denise frowns. “You know what’s rude? Not saying hi to your best friend after she’s been standing in front of you for five minutes.” Liz pouted teasingly, but Denise is still unhappy with her rude awakening and refuses to play along. “Hi,” she deadpans. “Welcome back to earth. What were you thinking about? You were gone.” “I’m single,” Denise announces. “...and? What about it?” I’ve been single for five months!” Liz rolls her eyes, “I’m well aware. I’m the one that’s heard you complain about it for five months.” “This is the longest I’ve been single since I was fourteen.” “ I know, Denise. What are you going to do about it?” Liz asks Denise with a long suffering sigh. “I don’t know,” she …show more content…
“What’s up guys? Waiting up for me?” With this greeting from Bryan a lightbulb goes off over Denise’s head and she brightens. She gives Bryan an appraising look and seemingly satisfied, she nods to herself mindlessly. “Only in your dreams, Bryan. We have better things to do than wait up for you,” Liz teases. “I dom’t know, Liz. I wouldn’t mind waiting up for Bryan after soccer practice. We could get something to eat?” Denise directs the question at Bryan. She has her hand on his shoulder casually and is smiling flirtingly at him. Both Bryan and Liz look at Liz like she’s suddenly grown antennas. Bryan looks at Denise with a flabbergasted expression on his handsome face. “Are you feeling okay?” “ I am now that you’re here,” Denise continues to flirt and Liz looks on in horror. “Um. okay then?” Bryan questions. Denise shoulders on despite the apparent confusion on his face. “So, it’s a date? Dinner after practice? I’m always starving after soccer.” Bryan is at a loss for a moment, but then he hesitantly replies, “Uh, yeah. Sure, whatever you want. I’ll see you guys later.” Denise smiles in

We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…
