Officer Lance was on duty on Saturday morning, when he received a report of a wandering dog. He got to the location, the Goodsburrow Woods, and saw that the dog was hungry and so thin you could see many of its bones. “Hey girl”, said the officer. “Come on. It’s okay.” The dog barked as if she were frightened. Officer Lance found a white jeweled collar on the floor that read, “Launa The Pug. If found, please return to 6954 Ash Road.” Officer Lance looked up after reading the tag and saw that the pug began running into the woods. He started to chase the pug, but she was out of reach. I’m here because Elouise, my owner, was always at a ‘Research Center’, so she never had time to take care of me. I just wanted to take a break.”, said Launa. “How did you get all the way to the forest if you were just taking a break?”, said Lester. “I may have fallen into a truck, fell asleep, and got caught getting out. "Sure! Elouise would enjoy another pet!", Launa said. They began walking through the woods. They stayed at the edge, so they wouldn't get lost. After a couple hours of walking, they stopped at a market in town to to scavenge for food. They found enough food to fill them up and continued back to walking in the woods. "Wow! Launa, were in the part of town where all the mansions are! I didn't know that they were tucked in to woods!", Lester said excitedly. " There is a dog playpen in

I just got done with my shift to protect Camp Half-Blood feeling very tired and stressed. With the camp’s protection being down and most of the campers going back to their families for the summer, this meant that there were very few of us to guard our safe haven. It was a balmy ten o’clock on a Saturday morning in June; the thick air around the Humane Society smelled vaguely of livestock. Stepping into the air-conditioned chill of the shelter, I took a breath, signed in to the volunteer portal, and took my place at the front desk. On this particular day the first people waiting were an older couple, and my heart sank when I saw them. The husband had a bundle in his arms, something wrapped in an old comforter, and I had worked the front desk long enough to know what that meant. Sure enough, as they approached, the blanket shifted and I saw, as I knew I would, the white muzzle and emaciated face of a dog in the decrepit last stages of old age.…
