“Hey,” he says, his voice cracking halfway through.
Eren’s lips part on an unspoken word, his thick eyebrows furrowed tightly on his forehead. He holds the door open wider- a silent invitation- and Levi steps in without another word. He shoves his hands into the pockets of his pants and grins at Eren.
“Why are you here?” Eren asks, voice raspy and gritty from sleep. He presses the heel of his hand briefly against …show more content…
Instead, he leans closer to Levi, sniffing, searching, and when he comes across a bitter scent he recoils as if he had been slapped.
“You smell like cheap beer,” he states, and Levi scoffs.
“What’s a good boy like you know about cheap beer?” he says.
It’s been a few weeks into their new level of friendship, and they’re still trying to figure each other out. They sometimes lapse into their old ways of silent, three second looks across the hall. But other times they start conversations, little bits and piece of information shared between them, during lunch or their shared classes.
But, however, they’re still not on best friend level. Eren’s pretty positive they’re still not even on friend level. If anything, they’re hovering slightly above acquaintance. So honestly, he feels he has a right to be confused as to why Levi Ackerman is currently standing in his doorway, smelling of beer.

Here's to going to school for years just to end up in a job you'll hate for the rest of your life. Here's to getting married to someone who's gonna stop caring in ten years and to having kids who will just hate you when they're thirty. And most of all, here's to never getting your version of that damn American dream."
Eren stares at him, and Levi stares back, and in that moment he realizes just how unhappy he is. Levi doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to be bitter. Sure, he’s quiet in school and sometimes he looks like he hates everyone. But in their short, three second conversations, he’s always been pleasant.
“You’re gonna be okay,” Eren whispers, because he’s not really sure how to respond to Levi right now.
“I’m never gonna be okay,” Levi says. “I’m scared and confused and getting drunk is how I cope. And now I’m burdening you with me own shit.”
“I invited you in-”
“But you never told me to talk,” Levi whispers.
“Sometimes that’s what you need,” he
