Kevin wants to take Dana to dinner, but she does not want to leave the house, for fear she will get dizzy again. While Kevin and her eat dinner, she gets dizzy again and is whisked away. Instead of the river, she finds herself in a room with the boy she saved earlier. The boy is holding a burning stick and the drapes are on fire. Dana quickly puts the drapes out and asks the boy who he is. He says his name is Rufus. Rufus remembers her from the river and says that before he went underwater he saw Dana in her apartment unpacking books. He also said that he thought that she was a man because she was wearing pants. His mother said that she was just a “strange n-word”. Dana bristles at the name and asks him to call her a black person.
