Dear Coach Williams, I have been a year long journey to the Tundra biome. It is very cold here and snows majority of the time. Summers bring wildflowers, but other than that it is mostly snow. This biome is found in the Arctic and has absolutely no trees and it does not get much rain here either. There is a lot of animals here: sheep, mountain goats, birds, grey wolves, polar bears, and very few other species.…

Ted uses a lot of imagery in his free verse poem “Depression Glass” by using our five senses: see, touch, taste, feel, and hear. In line one, “It seemed those rose-pink dishes”, seems to be the main focus in this poem while they are used for special occasions, they still have an issue keeping something hot, “the plates like the panes of ice”. He used metaphors twice to compare the rose-pink dishes always being cold as ice and the cups’ inability to keep coffee or other beverages hot, “everyday mug would have kept/a splash hot for the better”. I take this as perhaps a regular mug would have been a better choice, but the hostess realized that it would have just clashed with the rest of the set like an eyesore.…

I went down stairs ate some pancakes with maple syrup on top, fantastic bacon, and a nice refreshing glass of cold Orange juice. “Hey Hope how do you feel about our date last night,” Braverman asked me while on our break. “I am not sure how I feel, but I do know I had an amazing time though,” I told him smiling. “Well would you like to go out again tonight, maybe a movie?”…

Kurt Vonnegut’s Reading, Boredom, Belonging, and Our Human Responsibility speech at Fredonia College reminds me of my pastor’s sermons, however without a religious aspect. Vonnegut advises this graduating class on how to be good people and lead good lives. The tone of this essay is patronizing, as it is expected for graduation speakers to be wise and impart wisdom into the new generation. This is why most graduation speeches are timeless, such as “This is Water” by David Foster Wallace. He begins the speech with a silly and seemingly dull piece of advice that he uses to start deeper discussion: “I suppose you will all want money and true love, among other things.…

It was a strange encounter because the most contact we’ve ever had was merely glancing at each other. I then responded with skepticism, “I’m sorry I don’t have any with me.” She slightly chuckled at my response as she proceeded to grab a bottle of water from her cart and shared it with me. Perplexed, I accepted her offering, though deep down I knew that she needed it more. I thought that she needed water, when in fact, she knew that I needed the water more than she…

One Size Cannot Fit Most As a self-confessed shopaholic, I don 't avoid many stores, but there is one store specifically I cannot bring myself to walk into. For a multitude of reasons, I chose not to shop at Brandy Melville because of its ridiculous idea that one size fits most. Walking into a Brandy Melville store, you will not see a size bigger than a small or a one size label scattered across hangers of clothing that looks incredibly similar to one another. It doesn’t take a genius to see who exactly Brandy Melville is selling to, take one look at their Instagram and you 'll find her: white, blonde, skinny, long-legged girls who look exactly the same.…

For once, the prosperity of their lives seemed to drag on peacefully. The harvest would be lauded as the best in centuries; a surplus had come in by the ton. Children laughing, prancing almost, running along the street with ease. Peace and tranquility seemed to be an endless stream of warmth bubbling away the blood that had been shed so long ago. Locals would occasionally stumble past a lonely corpse that sat peacefully in its final resting spot.…
