With my arms on my knees and my head on my arms, my dad tapped my arm three times. He whispers with excitement in his voice. “Hey, hey Molly. I saw some movement.” I lift my head up and look to see if there was a deer. “Just wait.” His voice said again. A small doe started to walk in from the left. There were some trees in the way so I didn’t really see it at first. It took some slow long steps toward the bait pile. She put her head down and started eating corn. She lifted her head up to look to the side. Straight for her, to the right of my dad and I. A bigger doe comes in from the left, same spot as the small doe. It walked up and started to eat corn with the small doe. I didn’t even think to grab my muddy girl camo 243 rifle, I just sat and watched it. The big doe now looked at the same direction with her ears standing straight. She bent down her neck and started to eat the corn again. I look over to where the two does where looking. …show more content…
The deer had it’s head to the ground so I couldn’t see what it was. It lifted it’s head up to show a set of antlers coming out from his head. I grab my gun as it walks up to the bait pile and my dad whispers again, “Look a buck, go for that.” I raise my gun once the Buck was in the pile. I didn’t even bother to rest the gun on anything which is really impressive for me who can’t hold that gun due to it being too heavy. I aimed the sights to it’s heart and shot. My ears rang and my forehead hurt. The bang made my ears ring and the scope hit me in the forehead between my eyes. I lowered my gun and watched the buck fold forwards. The two does started to run. The smaller of the two stopped no more than 10 feet from our blind. “Should I go for that one?” I point at the doe. My dad shook his head. I pulled back on the bolt but the shell didn’t eject. The doe ran off before I could get it

The Squirrel It was my first year hunting, it was also my last chance to go hunting before early bow season ended for shotgun season. I was getting anxious because I had not yet gotten a deer and I had bought my tags myself and did not want to not use them after spending fifty plus dollars on them. I pulled into my uncles drive way to pack my stuff in his charcoal grey f250 ford pickup so we could go to Pisgah, Iowa to the louse hills for our final hunting trip. “Are you ready to go”, he asked. “Yes, I am very anxious and nervous about not getting a deer or turkey”, I answered him.…

It dropped immediately.…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…

Just before she disappeared into the evergreens on our right, the same place they had disappeared the first time, I was able to spot a squirt of crimson red blood seep out of her. Usually after you shoot a deer you wait at least 30 minutes to go look for it unless it’s sitting dead in front of you. I barely made it ten before my dad gave in and we climbed down. Before we even left the stand, my dad told me to look for blood, which is actually what you’re supposed to do.…
