I noticed a clump of trees in the blazing, hot desert. Where there were trees, I thought, there has to be water. The trees were only about 50 feet away from me but walking towards them in the 120 degree heat felt like they were 10 miles away. I wiped away my sweat with the back of my hand. Once we got to the trees, I couldn’t help but scream. “We are saved! We can survive for at least 2 weeks here!” Gina and Jenny scrambled to the trees to see what I was yelling about. There was a trailer. Old, but still useful. I went inside it and found some old canned food and hot water. The food smelled like it had been in that trailer for decades. Even though I thought it was the end too. Right then though, we heard a loud noise that sounded like a tornado. It was the wind from a helicopter! We all raced out of the trailer and jumped up and down screaming to try to get the helicopter to notice us. Sure enough, the helicopter landed right in front of us. We were all so ecstatic words couldn’t even explain how we felt. The rescuers grabbed us by the hand and pulled us into the helicopter. They gave us fresh water and food, which tasted like Thanksgiving dinner, even though it was only a protein bar and water. Then, the rescuers asked what happened and if everyone was alright. They took us to the hospital for a few hours to make sure. Then we got to go home and see our family. We missed them so much, and they missed us too. “I was worried sick about you guys!” exclaimed my aunt with tears in her eyes. Jenny, Gina, and I told everyone the story. A few weeks later, Jenny and Gina went to school and felt more confident now like they could accomplish any task. Everyone wanted to hear our story.
