Napoleon Michigan is a fantastic place - to be from. A four-way stop sign in the middle of the state, if you blink you may miss it. As a kid, the insignificance of the place doesn’t matter. What does matter are the rolling hills that collect snow, perfect for sledding. The numerous lakes, great for cooling off in the summer, and skating on in the winter.…

Imagine, you are walking alone in a forest alone in a forest, and haven't eaten more than thin, prickly pears in days. You are settling down around a fire and six soldiers approach you. They start talking, but you don't understand them. They speak a different language. They signal for you to drop your food and to walk away into the forty degree night.…

Bullets whizzed overhead hell-bent on hitting their targets. James pressed himself against the mud wall of the trench, as if by doing so it would take him away from the corner of hell that his old naive self had willingly entered. Allied planes tore through the open sky with kamikazes right on their tails. Gaping holes left in the ground by heavy artillery were full with stagnant water and the rotting corpses of dead soldiers, their weapons bent and rusted displaying a haunting past that time wouldn't forget.…

Twas a regular, and unexciting day of school. When Miss Pierre walked into the classroom, she arrived with a seemingly mystical, yet intriguing surprise. Of course, it was a pop quiz for our short story we were reading in class called Roots. But, when everyone was done, she had a much more exciting surprise that no one expected. This surprise was a visit to the world renowned and unbelievably interesting GMML.…

"December 17, 1853, Dear Mr Scrooge: You, a fine sir of business, may take little notice of this letter. Ten years ago you changed for the better. When I had first heard about Dunes through youth group at Good Shepherd, I thought it would be a fun three day trip to the beach with a bunch of my good friends. Little did I know, I would learn many new things that really inspired me and persuaded me to grow in ways I never thought I was capable of. Not only were these three days at the beach a very fun time with my friends, it was somewhat very emotional as well. I learned so many new things about my peers and watched their relationship with God grow. I can confidently say that without Dunes, I wouldn't be the person I am today, and I am extremely thankful that I went and had the time of my life.…

Eastview Elementary, which is in Mansfield, Ohio, is where I started my Kindergarten year and finished up to the 3rd grade. However my 2nd grade year was the most frustrating time for me. I was seen as the quiet kid with not a lot of friends, so many would see me as a perfect target to mess with during class. Ms. Smith our teacher was the best part of my school days. Back on the islands of Malaysia, my dad had to work through many difficult tasks that we take for granted every day in our luxurious lives. Although he was blessed to have something to cover his head, it took the form of a canvas which combined with a stick formed a tent-like structure. He also had the necessities he needed to keep him alive such as water, but he had to travel a long distance with a bucket there and back to reach the local watering well of the whole community. In addition, to use the restroom, he had to climb up a towering mountain to reach a hole in the ground where you had to pour water into the hole to take the place of a plumbing system. “Welcome to America!”…

When I got on the SEPTA 66 bus from Frankford Transportation Center, it was just another plain day for me. I spent a hearty amount of my day enjoying my biology class and falling asleep in my computer class. When I would get home, I’d either take a nap or try to do some homework for my online courses. I stepped on the bus, swiped my transpass, and sat at my usual spot on the bus; the three seater facing the backdoor. I see that across from me, there was a girl in a maroon catholic high school uniform on her phone.…
