Companionship. On a journey like this, it’s not important. She knew that Preston would assume the she couldn’t do it alone. She thought to herself, who will I get paired with this time? As she listened to her given instructions, words putting themselves in order in her brain, understanding what needed to be done. She waited and waited. Finally he gave her, her long awaited answer. “Now for your partner.” Preston paused. “Your partner is...Adam.” he stated with serious expression. He couldn’t be joking. That had been the most serious face he has given her throughout the years. Stern eye contact, jaw clenched. No smile. “Adam?” Emily questioned, “Who’s Adam?” She looks him in the eyes. He plainly tells her that he’s in another town and that he will meet her at her house. She rolls her eyes, “Fine, but if he does something stupid,-” “He won’t.” he says firmly, cutting her off. The sun is glaring down on their backs. Leaves falling to the ground, crunching under their shoes. Chilling wind, blowing through the last surviving leaves, stuck on the tree’s limbs. Emily trudged over logs and up hills, heading to the treehouse. Their mission was to retrieve locations on another town to trade with for more supplies. This would take at least a day. Emily stops to look at her map to see how close they are to the treehouse. Opening her map, looking at the tiny red circle placed on the map. She can’t tell where they are. We are lost in the middle of the woods. Fantastic. Folding the map up and placing it in the side pocket of her backpack, watching as Adam pushes his way through all the brush.
