Charlie couldn’t truly enjoy his life after the operation because he was constantly overthinking everything. After he had truly comprehended everyone’s feelings towards him during the operation’s effects, Charlie could not stop thinking about everyone else. He was continually trapped inside his own mind. His social life was decreasing and he was finding it difficult to be with other people. His outlook was seen when he wrote that “I want to be left to myself. I have become touchy and irritable. I feel the darkness closing in. It's hard to throw off thoughts of suicide.” He was dealing with a lot of different emotions like anger, shame and disappointment. He was angry at himself for not trying hard enough, shameful that he was causing others to feel sorry for him, and disappointed at his decreasing intelligence.
