Once learning the basics about Cerebral Palsy (CP), I chose to dig deeper into the more modern diagnostic tools and treatments. As an aspiring Audiologist, I looked into tools I would one day use if I were on a case with an individual with CP and found an article about the Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) tool that is being used to determine hearing loss and likelihood of other related disabilities in tandem with CP. The study done showed significance in correlation with most other causes of CP and related disorders, and also proved helpful in determining prognosis of the individual with CP. After looking at the diagnostic angle, I then researched treatment options that are now being explored to help combat the neurological symptoms of CP…

I was born 23 weeks premature and weighed one pound and three ounces. Because of my prematurity, I have a medical condition known as Cerebral Palsy (CP), which is a neurological disorder that affects body movement and muscle coordination. As a result of my Cerebral Palsy, I have endured and overcame many challenges, which have greatly affected who I am today. Cerebral Palsy is not a cookie-cutter condition; the severity of the condition, type of muscle contraction, and the area(s) affected vary from person to person. In my case, the Cerebral Palsy is less severe, causing only the muscles in my legs to contract at a higher rate than normal.…

Some people will hate you for reasons seemingly unknown or unreasonable to you. It all started with the rehearsals of the 2015 school spring musical of The Addams Family that my friend, we'll just refer to him as Pugsley, myself and a couple other friends, were met with the presence of a then junior, who we'll refer to as, Katrina.…

We walked out of my front doors and started down the sidewalk toward my sister’s car. I followed Shelbie into the third row of seats while Ivy, Annalise, and Jessica piled into the middle row. Our knees brushed the leather of the middle row seats and our dresses crumpled beneath our legs. The engine rumbled as Devin turned the key in the ignition. Ivy glanced back at me, snickered, and murmured something inaudible to Jessica and Annalise.…

Physical activity (PA) is necessary for optimum physical and psychosocial health of the general population. It has been suggested that it is even more important for children and adolescents with Cerebral Palsy (CP) who struggle with impairments that interfere with activities of daily living and limit participation in sports (Fowler, Knutson, et al., 2007). According to the World Health Organization, adolescents and young adults with and without disabilities who are physically active have higher levels of cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular endurance and strength, reduced body fat, and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression (WHO, 2010, p. 20). The purpose of this paper is to explore the literature in order to determine what is known about…
