I’m in some strange trial, not a prison, for attacking that demon and protecting the demon girl, Brielle. They put me in a cell for two days where I stayed alone. No one came to visit me, not that I’m surprised. I’m a human and I attacked at demon but under good reasons which why there’s now a trial. The demon, Rile, who attacked Brielle, has said Brielle planned for me to attack him and that’s another reason for the trial. The Order doesn’t know who is lying and who’s telling the truth, though it’s pretty clear from where I’m standing.
This is absolutely stupid.
So now I’m sitting in an odd-looking court room, surrounded by demons and cuffed to the shiny wooden table. Cuffed to the table? Because you know I’m the real threat here …show more content…
There’s sadness in her eyes and I can see clearly now that her left eye is slightly swollen. “I am so sorry,” she begins. “You should have never defended me.”
I blink, shaking my head. “Why wouldn’t I? You don’t deserve to be treated that way by anyone, no matter who they are.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“Your eye and your lip,” I interrupt. “Your brother did this to you, didn’t he? That’s who you’re really afraid of.”
She bows her head, unwilling to talk, but not moving away. Her eyes become watery before choking back the fearful tears.
“You don’t have to take it,” I compel her. “You can stand up for yourself and fight.”
“How?” she exclaims, quietly and she glances over her shoulder back to Daemn to make sure he can’t hear her. The horror in her eyes is the kind of fear that has developed over years and years of torment and abuse. “I’m nothing more than a pretty face. I have no powers, unlike him. I’m weak.”
“What are your parents? Can’t they do something about him?”
Brielle shakes her head, nervously, biting her bottom lip. “They’re dead and you want to know who kill them. Him. Though no one can prove it. No one can ever prove anything when it comes to my brother,” she sneers, darkly. “I’m …show more content…
“Thank you. I wish people were more like you.”
“I’m not so sure about that,” I say with a small smile and some humor, trying to make her happy. I drop her hand. “I am human after all.”
She sings a laugh at this comment, baffling me. “You’re silly. It doesn’t matter what you are, it’s about who you are. And you’re a good person. Someone could have two heads and no arms and still be a better person than a human or even an angel. Being good is more than what you are. Your heart and actions are what makes someone a good person. That night, you didn’t keep walking, like the other human girl with you. You took action to defend me, despite the consequences you knew would follow. Those characteristics are what makes you good. ”
Her words sink deep into my head and I don’t know what to say. I have no words to reply back with. She’s right. She’s a terrified, abused, smart demon and I agree with her. I realize that’s why I helped her the other night. It was because she’s a good person, even though she’s a demon. I took action because I was a good person. It’s about the person, demon or not.
“Brielle,” an angry voice snaps and I see Daemn out of the corner of my eyes, gesturing to his sister to return to his
