Brandon had been driving for about 6 hours when he started hearing the banging sounds coming from his engine. It sounded like someone was slamming a wrench into the inside of his hood. He hoped it wasn’t anything serious, but it was hard not to worry. He was a couple miles into the forest no when a large bang followed by a couple of puffing noises came from his engine, his slowed to a halt as Brandon turned to the side of the road. He popped his trunk and a cloud of smoke emerged. “That’s not good” Brandon said, letting out a loud sigh. He knew he was miles from civilization so he decided to go looking for other campers that may be able to help him.

After 10 minutes or so of looking Brandon came across an old cabin, through the window he

His hands were tied behind his back and he was sitting on a hard concrete floor. He guessed he was probably in the basement of the cabin as it was the only building for miles. He stood up too quickly and stumbled into the wall next to him. He used his hands to feel around on the wall and located a door. He tried to open it, but unsurprisingly it was locked. It was a small, windowless room with a lit candle on the wall. Everything seemed ancient and there was dust everywhere, except for a small leather book on the desk across from Brandon. He grabbed the book and started flipping through the pages. It was filled with pictures of people in the woods the cabin is in. All of the pictures were of campers and none of them seemed to know the picture was being taken. He kept flipping through when he came across a picture of someone he recognized. He couldn’t remember where he saw this man, but he knew he had seen him before. He flipped through the rest of it and the last page made him drop the book. He was terrified, the last picture in the book was of him. It looked like it had been taken as he was looking for help in the woods. Brandon had had enough and started frantically looking for a way out of the cabin. He noticed that the rug in the room he was in was also not covered in dust. He moved it to the side and under where it had been was a hatch. Brandon swung open the hatch and it revealed a tunnel. It looked like an old mineshaft. He grabbed the candle off of the wall and dropped into the tunnel. He decided to follow it as all the other doors in the cabin were locked and too sturdy to

In a tiny, run-down bar on the sketchy side of town, I sit at a booth with a hardened, grizzled war veteran who was drowning his sorrows with cheap liquor out of amber-tinted shot glass. Consequently,—because of Veteran's Day—in honour of those who served, I was asked to interview Colonel William Cohen McAdams—who served in the army, airforce, and the navy SEALs—for an article in the university paper. He was a decent-looking fellow—for someone who was missing an eye. Ironically enough, he catches more with one eye than anyone else does with two. He lost it to a shrapnel grenade during his fifth and final tour of duty—I’d later learn.…
