Percy tightened his hold around her, like his arms were the only shields she had from everything in the world. Which, in a way, they were. "Oh no, Annabeth," Percy reassured her, not moving away to look her in the eyes. "No, Luke is gone. He's gone forever. They caught him."
Annabeth's breath caught. She pulled away then to look at him in shock. She saw the truth of his words gleaming in his eyes. "Oh, thank the gods," she said. "We're okay." It was almost too good to be true.
Percy smiled at her, a bright, gleaming smile that made her insides melt entirely. "We're okay."
He pulled her to him and slanted his lips over hers. The world opened up. She felt like everything that had been killed inside of her over the course of the past few months' events - her happiness and joy and completion - blossomed back to life.
