On Monday night about 8 o'clock, I reached the guard, about 100 people passed it and went towards the custom house where the king's money is lodged. They immediately surrounded the sentry posted there, and with clubs and other weapons threatened to execute their vengeance on him. I was soon informed by a townsman their intention was to carry off the soldier from his post and murder him. I immediately sent a non-commissioned officer and 12 men to protect both the sentry and the king's money, and very soon followed myself to prevent, if possible, all disorder. Nay, so far was I from intending the death of any person that I suffered the troops to go to the spot where the unhappy affair took place without any loading in their pieces; nor did I ever give orders for loading them. …show more content…
At this time I was between the soldiers and the mob, parleying with, and endeavouring all in my power to persuade them to retire peaceably, but to no purpose. On which some well behaved persons asked me if the guns were charged. I replied yes. They then asked me if I intended to order the men to fire. I answered no, by no means. While I was thus speaking, one of the soldiers having received a severe blow with a stick, stepped a little on one side and instantly fired, on which turning to and asking him why he fired without orders, I was struck with a club on my arm, which for some time deprived me of the use of it, which blow had it been placed on my head, most probably would have destroyed

After dusk on Monday, March 5, 1770, a crowd of colonists confronted a sentry who had struck a boy for complaining that an officer was late in paying a barber bill. As anger escalated, a church bell rang, which drew people out of their homes. The British soldiers of the 29th Regiment of Foot were called to duty. In turn, townspeople responded by hurling snowballs and debris at the soldiers. A group of men led by Attucks approached the vicinity of the government building with clubs in hand.…

The trial of Captain Preston written in shorthand print of his testimony was demonstrated as: "Nay, so far was I from intending the death of any person that I suffered the troops to go to the spot where the unhappy affair took place without any loading in their pieces; nor did I ever give orders for loading them(Hodgson)," conveys his intent. Captain Preston never gave an order to the soldiers and never wanted blood to be spilled. Also, this eyewitness account of the British perspective, asking the soldiers is illustrated as: "On my asking the soldiers why they fired without orders, they said they heard the word fire and supposed it came from me. This might be the case as many of the mob called out fire, fire, but I assured the men that I gave no such order; that my words were, don't fire, stop your firing. In short, it was scarcely possible for the soldiers to know who said fire, or don't fire, or stop your firing (Charles Edwards and Richardson)," shows that it was misheard during the riot.…

My Dearest Nancy, I am writing to you from the trenches in my “dug-out”. It is cold and wet. Winter has not been kind to us out on the Western Front. Many of our chaps have gotten what they call “trench foot”. A nasty disease where your feet turn blue and swell up – even go numb.…

On the evening of March, the fifth, it being a Monday, several soldier of the 29th Regiment committed brutal acts of bloodshed and violence against several of our young men while under the command of Captain Preston. There are those who are loudly proclaiming this act to be merely the soldiers defending themselves against malicious intent from colonist, however it is unfathomable to this writer how any person could fail to see this event anything but the needless bloodbath that it was. It is hard to comprehend the vindictive and cruel spirits of the soldiers who attacked that day. Why they would rush upon and several injure many harmless and more often than not, unarmed citizens.…

    1. According to Preston, the soldiers did not act reasonably to this situation. Based on his information, he had explicitly and clearly directed his officers not to fire into the crowd. However, due to the commotion and noise at that particular time, it was possible that the soldiers assumed that the directive of firing came from him. Based on his assessment of the situation, if the soldiers were reasonable and logical enough, then they would put into consideration the fact that the crowd was shouting the word ‘fire.'…

There are three sides to every story: One person’s side, the other person’s side, and the truth. This is no different for the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre took place in March 5, 1770 in the streets of Boston. Some people believe that the colonists were more responsible for the death of the 5 colonists. Others, including myself, believe that the Redcoats were more responsible.…

Of course, I was perfectly settled, ready to rest, when – crack! – The Union artillery began firing. I found myself almost two feet out of my boots when I heard it, I’m telling you. They’d sneaked into the forest, without a single one of us noticing. Accordingly, I grabbed my rifle, and rushed straight to the rocky outcrop where we had a sentry, and I started firing, oblivious to anything returned to our positions; I counted each man I shot – one, two, three, and maybe four – before they decided to scatter.…

Lee and George’s theory is that human life begins at conception, additionally, they believe that what distinguishes a human different from all other animals is that they have a rational soul, their intellect and will (Bedford, 2012). Lee and George view abortion as wrong since it denies the fetus it’s personhood, in addition, they state that a fetus shouldn’t be intentionally killed. They cite that it should be disallowed socially and politically. The article also states the view for the L&G, if a fetus has a personal essence, but its mother can legally abort it, then that particular polis does not consider a personal essence as the ground for inclusion in the protected community or sufficient to contribute to aid in the pursuit of the communal…

After fighting for years to be promoted to the position of tank company executive officer, I believed that transitioning into the role would be relatively easy. I could not have been more mistaken. As soon as the paperwork settled and I donned my new uniform, I encountered an ethical dilemma that cast all of my previous training into doubt. The officer I replaced had been less than forthcoming in his maintenance reports to the company and battalion commanders. The officer had fabricated data on the number of maintenance problems in order to look better in the eyes of his superiors.…

It's a rainy day, of that kind of thunderous rain that digs your cheeks when, needlessly, you seek with the nose a cheekbone of sun. It's a day, this one, in which the rain seems not to find peace, and it collects inside the hands' baskets of beggars and spreads over the din of roundabouts, when the road is a long canvas punctured by irregular splinters of sky, disturbed by gargling traffic and tires and nervous girls with wet skirts on the sidewalks. I observe the rain while the street narrows at the foot of a kilometric residential facade beyond which there exists nothing, a one-dimensional militarized front that declares us Cold War, littered with windows fragmenting the mirror image of the opposite trench, that which, pigeonholed, also…
