Creative Writing: Abidem Afra

Afra glanced around her eyes frantically scanning the area around her. Although there were many monkeys circling around her she did not see her Abidemi. Panic began to pump throughout her body and she began to run in circles calling out for her child. In a panic, she ran off into the woods calling out her baby’s name. “Abidemi!” she breathlessly yelled out with all her might. “Mama, help!” she heard the tiny voice of her baby calling from above her head. Throwing her head up towards the sky, Afra search the trees around her. Suddenly, her eyes locked on a tiny black object entangled high up in the branches directly above her head. Abidemi, how did this happen!” Afra exclaimed furiously with a hint of relief underlying her tone. “I wanted to climb like the big kids.” …show more content…
Abidemi was a little young, but there was no reason for him to be withheld from climbing. He was quick but he was small in stature for his age and unable to fight off potential predators. Although most young monkeys do not learn to climb until they are a little older she knew her son, and she believed he would be able to do this. “Wait,” she exclaimed, “stay up in that branch son. You are going to climb down this tree on your own.”
“Are you sure I can do it Mama?”
“My dear boy I believe that you can do anything that you want to, but you must believe in yourself and have courage.” Timidly, Abidemi set his tiny foot on the first branch and began his descent down. He wobbled at first, but eventually he developed a system and was going faster than Afra had ever seen any monkey climb. She watched in awe as she could see how quickly her son learned and adjusted. Already she could envision him being an incredible leader one day and possibly changing this jungle back to good. As soon as he reached the ground she embraced his small form relishing the time she had with him while they were both still
