Creative Writing: A Raid

Snores disturbed the morning peace. A big yawn and a large gust of wind russled me enough to wake me. I stretched side to side in order to shake away the nights stiffness. The cave walls were glistening with condensed barbarian breath, and old cave slime, a beautiful sight to behold. I struggled to get up, ready to enjoy the days tasks. First was a morning shower in the cavern waterfall. The cold wilderness water cascading all around always had a restorative effect on what could seem a brittle frame. The mornings adventures had yet to begin. Today was going to be a raid on the almighty iron labyrinth. I shook with excitement. Tiger meat! There was no better meal for a barbarian, that was for sure. And the adventure that goes with it is always the most intense and memory worthy. Again I shook with excitement. It was time, yet there were fewer hoofbeats than normal. One... no two... no... four! Four hoofbeats. One horse, ahhh yes, not a raid but a solo adventure! Oh how I enjoy those battles. Again and again the horse's hooves fell. Finally the hrose came to rest at the entrance to the Iron Labyrinth. It was time for

I could feel the warmth of that blood. Tiger after tiger fell, bodies rusting firm leaving only a beating heart. Rarely, oh so rarely, a haunch of the mighty tiger would resist rust, providing a meal unlike any other. Hearts were consumed and mighty shouts bellowed through the labyrinth. There were more and more grunts as axe met fanged and clawed foe. I felt heavy. Heavy with blood and bits of tiger. My lust was not yet sated though, no. More tigers fell, more to rust, until finally there was enough meat for one good adventure. Bloodied and weary I returned to the cavern. The horse by now used to the smell of blood had no reaction as he

The adrenaline was pumping through my veins and I couldn’t stop despite the fact that my lungs felt as if there were icy shards lodged in my chest. Haunted figures of the men that destroyed my life as I knew it flashed before my eyes as I lept over crates and pushed down trash cans behind me, my path marked by a riddled maze of rotted food and old possessions. The tears in my eyes were no longer tears, but streaks of moisture…

The horse pulled back his suede lips, exposing teeth and pale gums, stretched his jaw open, and placed his upper teeth on the top of the fence post. Long pieces of grass were parted upwards from their bodies; and their blood tainting the area around. A large unknown animal stared straight through me from across the red splattered field. It had the most petrifying eyes, like dark ice. It pierced right through my soul; almost as if it had attached me to the ground and would not allow me to move. Then in an instant, I was laying face down, just like the others.…

Feet dangling over the ancient cliff, the breeze whispered sweet nothings as it swept by. Thoughts are consumed by the overwhelming beauty that seems closer as ever before. There was only this moment, only the great expanse, only the sweet smell of fresh flowers that popped up wherever they could. Sliding my hands over the rock, feeling every smooth crevice in the cliff and imagining the stories behind every one of them. Thinking back to the history, the thousand years that it took to create something so breathtaking.…

Her watery eyes stared at mine and the monster’s being. Petrified, I quitted the room with zest, my heart beating as I hear the thundering footsteps pursuing behind. Attempting to outrun the beast I locked myself within a chamber, hearing the howling of the giant and charging against the door. I had prepared to succumb to my fate, perhaps this was my consequence for acting out what my nature allowed. Yet, familiar voices echoed through the hallways and the frenzy subsided, the male creature was killed.…

As the sunlight breaks through the dense fog, I can see the long trail that will eventually lead me up the mountain. The air was crisp and cool, and the sweet song of the birds chirping danced on my eardrums. The dirt was damp, and the grass was covered in dew. As I ascended up the trail I was interrupted by a dray of chipmunks, so I stopped to observe their journey across the woodland floor. The sun has risen just a little bit higher, and the fog started breaking apart, so I decided to stray of the trail to a small boulder and sat down to bask in the beautiful atmosphere.…
