ADHD is brain disorder in which ongoing patterns of inattention or hyperactive impulses interfere with normal development or functioning. According to the article, characteristics of the disorder include inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsive behavior.

Although scientists are not sure of what causes ADHD, factors that contribute to this disorder include genetic makeup, cigarette or alcohol use or consumption during pregnancy, brain injuries, low-birth weight, or exposure to harmful environmental substances during pregnancy or at a young age.
