The trial presented in Inherit the Wind clearly pertains to the great debate between creationists and evolutionists and although this is true, a more profound underlying conflict exists beneath surface. In the play the creationists or the townspeople adhere to strict fundamental Christian traditions, which dedicate how the Hillsboro community is run and what they should believe in. The creationists are deemed as a conservative force, but their ignorance overshadows the fact that their conservatism stems from fear. The most influential creationists, Brady and Reverend Brown, which coincidentally hold authoritative positions in society that are still intact till this day.
