It could be seen how the founders and company have overcome the hurdles and struggle in innovating new technologies and expanding the market for their innovation with scarcity and limited resourcefulness. They overcome problems like no machinery, little scientific equipment and material constraints. This was overcome mainly due to their strong spirit of innovation and excitement. The case study also reflects their business intelligence, marketing strategy and pride when they rejected a purchase order for 100,000 new transistor radios from a large US distributor, The Bulova Corporation, because Bulova would only sell this product only if it carries its name. They believed that building Sony’s brand name was more important than a large sale.
Ibuka and Morita established that their core purpose was to be a pioneering company, which did the impossible. Additionally, the future they envisioned included the following: * Become the company most known for changing the worldwide image of Japanese products as being of poor quality. Made in Japan will mean something fine and not shady. * Create products that become pervasive around the world; * Be the first Japanese company to go into an American market and distribute directly; and * Fifty years from now, their brand name will be as well-known as any on Earth.
