Creating A Pumpkin Pouppet

For this assignment I created a “snowman” pumpkin puppet! I created this puppet through the creative process without any prompts. I figured since it was fall and pumpkin week, I would create a puppet for not only my school work, but to also use in my preschool classroom! My puppet shows a lot of detail about pumpkins. It shows the texture and lines that you would find on a pumpkin, the seeds, the stem, and the leaves. While trying to think of how to make this appealing and fun for preschoolers, I thought of what better way to do it other than to be silly. So I made it look like a snowman! I really liked the snowman idea, but after thinking more about it, I thought it would work perfectly because pumpkin come in ALL different shapes (mostly round) and sizes! My puppet that I created was made out of a brown paper bag. I have found that children enjoy making these because they can actually stick their arm inside of it and treat it like a real puppet. …show more content…
I would then tell the class that we had a special visitor that would like to introduce himself. The pumpkin puppet would only be a “fall” visitor. As a teacher I would try and find a book that relates to my puppet most. While reading the book, I would then bring out the puppet and allow it to read along and be silly with the book and the students. After the book is over, I would then introduce the puppet fully, giving the class its name, where it is from, and how to respect it. The puppet could then be used in the dramatic play center.
